Sure (to pretty much all of that) they could... but its looking unlikely.

GW seemed like they were planning Big Things when they split the galaxy in half. But then they pulled back, retconned the timeline of the Indomitus Crusade and generally pushed the boat back out more conservatively. 8th passed without note, and 9th is looking fairly insignificant for big ripples in the fluff.

Return of the Lion is still the most likely big event, but they've been sitting on that for years now.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

There is now a Tau divine entity. It's just been birthed by the differing emotions and beliefs of the Tau's client species. Essentially a warped exaggeration of the Greater Good.

I don't know whether it is actually indicative of anything or just teasing with loose ends that will just sit there for editions to come but in Godblight we have the following:

Spoiler:

Guilliman questioning more and more whether the Emperor really is now a god, at least now even if not necessarily before, and feeling tempted to do the next step of trying to resurrect him, which is what Mathieu suggested is what the Emperor is waiting for.

Mathieu suggested the opening of the Rift, while allowing the Chaos gods to be more active out of the Eye, has also strengthened the Emperor just as all psykers have supposedly been strengthened, and that the Emperor is now more active than ever, and this is suggested too when Gulliman seemingly possessed by the Emperor waves his sword around and burns a swathe of Nurgle's garden, which effectively is the same as wounding Nurgle himself.

Ku'Gath getting banished and languishing in a gestational pod slowly regenerating, having fallen from favor for allowing the above burning to happen. An example perhaps of the GW policy of no model no rules? Seems like Ku'Gath as a character is being sidelined for Rotigus who now styles himself first in Nurgle's favor, having risen from his previous 2nd place to displace Ku'Gath.

In some of the more recent Eldar stuff like Phenix Rising there is mention of younger Exodites wanting to be more active on the galactic stage, which might be leaving an opening for GW to eventually do Exodites. In such a case, maybe Isha might escape or be rescued. Isha is the Eldar mother goddess as well as healing, so her escape would also symbolize a rebirth in some form of Eldar power or some hope for the future, like how Biel-tan see themselves in winter but await a new spring for the Eldar.

The Tau warp deity was generated by their client species and so far has not done anything more than open a safe path for the stranded 4th expansion fleet to leave the warp. Though it acted to help the Tau, the Tau of that fleet that witnessed it still regard it with revulsion as a warped caricature or perversion of their idea of the Greater Good. The Tau warp entity had five fingers for example as opposed to the Tau's normal 4, suggesting perhaps that humans are doing most of the generating of this Greater Good deity.

The expansion of the story of the old ones won’t complement any model releases so I doubt it. Unless it some how impacts necrons.

Can I ask what else do you want to know about the old ones? Unless they are still alive somewhere and coming back. Slaan in space would be cool for sure.

Perhaps a short about how they evolved into psychic beings (what pushed them to do so? What form of government did they choose when they reached out to the stars? An empire like most major players, or something more like a federation?) and a comprehensive explanation of their relationships with the early humans (like, is it true that evolutions of humans in 40k were intervened by these guys? If so, what was their plans for them?) would be nice.

Dunno, maybe.
Emperor rises again

Probably not.
Vulkan's (another) revival

Please no.
Lion returning to the Imperium

Again, please no.
Expansion on the lore of the Old Ones

I mean they're all dead anyway. Better to leave them as pretty much unknown.
Valdor getting his crap together and comes out of hiding

Surely he's dead. 10k years is a long time to stay alive for.

It's from War of Secrets. A description is below:

‘Every member of every vessel saw the same thing, though as with all the forms in the sub-realm, it could not be recorded.’
‘So there is no proof that it occurred. There is such a thing as collective hallucination.’
‘Perhaps,’ said Twiceblade. ‘But this… entity was our saviour. It looked down upon us. I felt something of good in it. Some twisted form of altruism, or communality, perhaps.’
‘And yet your voice trembles to speak of it,’ said Kais.
‘I found it strangely calming to behold, master, But I also felt its hunger to grow, to spread its many limbs from the tip of one of the galaxy’s spiral arm to the other. To remake everything in its own image. I remember feeling that, and then feeling like it peered directly into my soul.’

Tau divine entity - Possibly, but I don't know how keen Tau players would be, as they currently have an interesting and distinct 'divinity-less' culture, and this just make them a bit like the Imperium.

Isha being freed - Why? How would the setting benefit. It's quite possible I'm missing something.

Vulkan's (another) revival - Meh. An utterly bland and overpowered character.

Lion returning to the Imperium - Maybe, he is a cool character, but he would need to serve a purpose in the setting other than being an excuse for a big centrepiece model.

Expansion on the lore of the Old Ones - I hope not. GW's demystification has been getting steadily more hamfisted, and this really adds nothing of import to the setting.

Valdor getting his crap together and comes out of hiding - Valdor....return of the King of the Custards. Who cares?

The only one on that list I'm really interested in would be if the Lion came back as a chaos character. Dark angels fallen primarch returns... Or something.

His pattern of returning alive after being declared dead occurred often enough during Cain's career that the Munitorum made a special ruling that Ciaphas Cain is to never be considered dead, despite evidence to the contrary.

Or how about loyalist Lion who later decides to turn as a renegade (but not necessarily Chaos) due to the current state of Imperium?

Sounds like a genestealer to me many arms, some of the which have 5 fingers?

I doubt that there is one as of now due to the fact that the population of the T'au Empire is relatively small and even smaller when you only look at races that have a larger connection with the Warp. It took the Aeldari, a potently psychic race, almost 59,972,000 years to form Slaanesh. And while I realize that there has "always" been a "Slaanesh", it was nascent and only awoke in the 30th millennia.
 Cognitive wrote:
Isha being freed

I would like to think so, as it may just open up the door to having an Aeldari Exodite model line. Ynnead approaches Slaanesh, kicks the crap out of it (but not kill), gains the attention of Nurgle who leaves his garden domain and the Aeldari pull a heist to free her.
 Cognitive wrote:
Emperor rises again

I can't see it happening. At least, not at this point. Primarchs re-appearing again would come before the Emperor's revival.
 Cognitive wrote:
Vulkan's (another) revival

I don't see this happening either, but more plausible than the Emperor being revived.
 Cognitive wrote:
Lion returning to the Imperium

Lion El'jonson would probably end up as a co-Regent of the Imperium with Guilliman, with the former being active on the field and the latter being the diplomat/planner? The Lion will try to jog for power as he doesn't like Guilliman all that much and Guilliman will meet him halfway.

Expansion on the lore of the Old Ones

While it may be an unpopular theory, I would like to believe that the Tyranids were created as a reset button by one or more Old Ones that escaped the Milky Way when the Necrons destroyed most of them. Something along the lines of Halo's Precursors?
 Cognitive wrote:

It would be indeed certainly interesting, but I think that would be saved for a later edition. Something akin to Imperial Daemons?

Do people not read the comments? I've seen several people post that it's impossible, or that there flat out isn't, a Tau god. There is it's canon, the 4th Sphere Expansion were saved by it.

My apologies. I started to type that it is established as canon that there is an entity did indeed save the T'au, but removed it at the beginning and forgot to rewrite it. I said I doubt it's a "T'au god", but I am not flat out denying it either. All I could find were vague wording such as "possible."
