Does the focus on Beasts of Chaos with a new doombull, minotaurs, and jabberslythes in the next Total Warhammer DLC support or undermine the rumour of updated models for those? Or just a pure coincidence with no meaning whatsoever?

Bit underwhelming. GW aren't exactly known for great dragons sculpts, I suppose. First impression is that it'll make great conversion fodder for the existing dragon profiles.

Wings are definitely intentional. It's an odd design rather than an assembly flaw, but you're welcome to dislike it all the same.

Most of the BoC range is already Direct Only, but leaving them with no in-store representation would be amusingly in line with their traditional neglected status

Conversely, there's an expectation for an updated Doombull, Jabberslythe, and Bullgors in the next AoS battlebox, so it might be a good sign

I'd be very surprised if the chariots aren't ETB

The builds look identical all the way up to the passenger's right arm/pauldron and left hand

Gotta be a new member on the sculpting team. No other explanation for the Flamekeeper. Can't all be gryph-hounds, I guess.

Thrallmaster alright, but looks a bit B-teamy too compared to the other Deepkin heroes

Hopefully the news is the long awaited second wave for each of them

Sorry if this isn't completely on topic, but did they stop releasing the Warhammer Underworlds warbands as ETB without the cards for a cheaper price?

The Direchasm Starter warbands were released around the time Harrowdeep went up. I don't follow the game, but I think there were changes in the new season that made it more worthwhile to keep printing the rest of the Direchasm season warbands for the time being

Nice ! Any reason they are 10€ cheaper then all the other cultists ?

These are the Warcry versions, with the cards. Single set of sprues, not the double box without cards for AoS. Same price as the Shadowstalkers and Scions of the Flame

Tiny bit disappointed by the Warriors, honestly. Haven't read the leaks, but I assume this means dual hand weapons are out? Halberds all held awkwardly because they can't go two-handed without losing the shields.

I understand it would make for a much more expensive kit, but it would have been nice to have the option for shields slung over the back to accommodate the extra hand needed to hold a second weapon, or the one halberd properly.

Does this mean that there's a chance other finecasted models that were originally metal may also get a MTO run?

No examples immediately spring to mind, but I'm adamant this isn't the first time they've done a metal MTO for a miniature that was last retailed in resin.

Also, the mounted sorcerer does seem to have been a general release, you can find photos of the standard blister packaging online. If they were doing Games Day miniatures on MTO, then you'd think the Archaon on foot would be here too.

How even should a sensible, generic goblin wolf rider for Warhammer Fantasy look, if not like these? Different helmet, or none at all so as to avoid a look inspired by any real world designs? They're light cavalry, so the armour should be light and sparse. The exaggerated weapons are an unfortunate hallmark of Citadel Miniatures, but if they weren't Wonky Goblin Shaped then they'd probably just be sabres, either directly inspired by or a convergent design to that of the Mongols. The proportions are fine and necessary, they look the same as all the goblin kits in recent years.

You can just not like them, but if there's not actually a generic alternative then it's all a bit apropos of nothing. If the problem with goblin wolf riders made for Age of Sigmar is simply that they look like they were designed by Games Workshop, then I've got some unfortunate news about Warhammer: The Old World.

Tactical throne? Drags that massive stone chair across the battlefield with him?

Must think his valiant steed has gone lame

Definitely a new Slaan a la Kroak, the CAD files for palanquin make that a no brainer. The Saurus doesn't have a tactical rock so my fingers are crossed that it's an update of the rank and file unit. Big feathered beastie ideally the new Cold Ones, I like the idea of a more "true" raptor design for the dinosaur faction to separate them from the Dark Elves. Very exciting stuff.

AUD$98 for 5 Chosen knocks the wind out of the sails a bit.

Had I known the Army Set was a full $100 discount on the miniatures alone with the Battletome and peripherals for free, I might have actually considered it.

I was extremely underwhelmed with the value of the Sororitas army box, especially in terms of the quality of the peripherals, so I started ignoring most of them on the assumption any discount on miniatures was countered by overvalued books and cards.

At any rate, $335 isn't exactly a spur of the moment purchase price, but in hindsight I should have seen $98 Chosen coming not because it's a reasonable price but because it hasn't even been a year since Hedonites got their 5-man elite troops for the same price.

I wonder if beasts of chaos will be getting a similar level of attention or if it'll be a splash beastlord + book + weak vanguard set replacing the excellent value start collecting box.

Expect the latter, I believe. Beastlord preview mentioned nothing else, only that there'd be a more in-depth look at the new battletome later on.

I picked up two BoC start collecting boxes before they go OOP, now to hope that the vanguard set has some gors or minotaurs in there.

If there's one positive to being an outdated range, it's that the units actually in plastic are all relatively cheap enough to include a lot of them in a Vanguard set

Even the recent carnosaur could use a new rider that looks closer to the revamped saurus

The Carnosaur Oldblood looks significantly more like the new Warriors than the existing kits. The increase in sculpt quality from 2003-2013 was so astronomical that there's not really all that much an update from 2013-2023 can improve on. Only reason to update the Carnosaur kit now would be to bring the traditional Mesoamerican aesthetic more in line with the new ancient technology style, and I guess a different pose for the Carnosaur itself would be welcome too.

They can definitely redo the footslogging Oldblood clampack though, I'd love a customizable kit that can build a Scar Veteran, Oldblood or Sunblood.

Temple Guard, Saurus Knights and Kroxigors seem like safe bets at this point, and if we get Saurus Knights then I feel it'd be all but guaranteed we'll get a Scar-Veteran (/Oldblood) on a Cold One. Eternity Warden similarly likely if we get Temple Guard, plus it'd replace a resin miniature which seems to be one of the driving philosophies lately. I'd love for the Salamanders and Razordons to get the 3-model kit treatment each, a dual kit seems very unlikely without wasting a huge amount of plastic, but with the four releases revealed, three more units already very likely, and the strong possibility of at least one more footslogger and one mounted hero, I can't expect we'll see much more unless this ends up being an update to rival Soulblight (13 new plastic kits, if I counted correctly, but 6 of them were for Cursed City)

Absolutely adore those little axolotl frills

Unique handlers are great too

Only one pose with a two head options by the look of it, but still a significant improvement over the current situation, so I'm happy

Fingers crossed for Razordons too

Almost looks like if you build the "Ponder the orb" pose, you have enough alternative parts to assemble the other one as a Starpriest?

Probably not lucky enough to have a second torso, but it looks like everything else about it is unique.

EDIT: Not ninja'd, just slow

Unless I've missed some news, I'm surprised we still have no word on a Vanguard box.

Wonder what the balance of new vs old will be

Makes it pretty likely it consists mostly of new models. This way they can sell the new units on their own for a while before the discount box. Still not sure if it will just be the army set or some other combination (Aggradons?)

I hope it's more akin to the Slaves to Darkness boxes, honestly, with the contents of the army set and the vanguard being completely different. There might be Saurus, but I can see them putting in a unit of Skinks, either a Steg, a Basti, or Terradons, and rounding it off with the Starseer and the Kroxigor. I bought the army set, so ideally just anything except more Raptadons or Temple Guard

I knew I should have seen it coming, call it masochism or whatever, but I took a look at the Seraphon MTO prices and

Man.

Selling a resin version of the old Kroq-gar sculpt for the same price as the full multi-part plastic kit that replaced him is actually kinda funny in its way

Definitely Darkoath, the long awaited basic marauder and cavalry update

Elf has a dragon crest, but looks more like Lumineth than I'd expect Kurnothi or Malerion elves to be

I'd never fully trust what the GW social media managers actually know, but they have just replied to a comment on Instagram to say "It's here to stay" when asked if Spearhead: Stormcast Eternals is a limited release or a new addition to the range.

So I'd half expect Spearheads to be a return to the Start Collecting style boxes, a smaller, (ideally) cheaper box than the Vanguard sets intended to be a more sticker-shock friendly starting point

Unless gw increases discount %(hah!) this hence costs more than vanguard. So not return to start collect style.

A man can dream.

Is the assumption Vanguard boxes are going the way of the dodo then? It's a bit weird they'd double dip on main range discount sets, even if Spearheads are slightly differentiated with a Warscroll Battalion for the contents (I'd thought Vanguards still had those? Shows how much attention I've been paying)

I can see one each of infantry, cavalry, mounted hero, and monster, so it looks like they are the long needed Marauder refresh, with a new chieftain to keep pace in a pure Darkoath army, and a new beastie for flavour. Very keen

The monster itself is real cool, looks like if Jim Henson was inspired to put a Fallout Deathclaw in The Dark Crystal

Option should be axe, mace or any other 1 handed weapon, or a weapon hand to replace the shield, because the way they held spear near the tip is atrocious, they did the same thing to the chaos warrior but that one they looks like they're relaxing/marching, but this one they actually try to fight like that.

Ah, that's a good shout, couldn't quite work out what seemed off about them. The problem with the Chaos Warriors is them trying to use a two-handed weapon with just one, it's more like what happened with the Saurus Warriors, holding their spears like it's their first day out of the spawning pools. This is my just desserts for being in favour of set poses for plastic infantry; GW took away most of the options and then fully half of what's left looks just as stilted and awkward as the average multipose design.

Sword and board still looks solid, but damn did the unit customization and personalization just take a hit.

Nice broad net of Verminus, Skryre, and Moulder. Hopefully the new behemoth is a spiritual successor to the Brood Horror.

Little disappointed by Pestilens and Eshin actively losing units without gaining anything, I didn't think it was possible for those ranges to be in a worse position.

Is there anything more specific on the apparent new Verminlord? I assume a new character rather than a replacement for the existing kit?
