Hey everyone!
I’m signed up for a team event with my son and need to get up to speed to help him with this Salamanders. Even though I feel like we just got his Space Marines book, there is a newer 9th edition one. I also see there are some 9th edition supplements but not one for 9th edition salamanders. Should I be getting the 9th codex and the 8th salamanders supplement? Also, are there salamanders rules that are still used in any of the psychic awakening books or the new charadon books?
Why is it so hard to find these answers other than coming on a non-GW site to ask friendly strangers?
Thanks!

The Salamanders supplement is still valid as there isn't a
9th ed one yet.

You definitely need the 9th Edition Space Marine Codex and if your army includes any named characters such as Vulkan Hestan or Agatone then you will need the 8th Edition Salamanders Supplement.
As for Psychic Awakening, most of the rules in this for Space Marines were included in the 9th Codex so this isn't needed and I don't believe any Space Marine rules were included with the Charadon supplements.

Because GW's rules writers are engaged in some perverse competition to see how many documents they can make players carry in the hopes that someone suffers a hiatal hernia so severe that all their money falls out.

"All you 40k people out there have managed to more or less do something that I did some time ago, and some of my friends did before me, and some of their friends did before them: When you saw the water getting gakky, you decided to, well, get out of the pool, rather than say 'I guess this is water now.'"

honestly the best place to ask these questions would be a local gaming shop. GW even runs their own and the staff would be fairly helpful then.

As others have said, all you need is the 9th edition space marine codex, and the salamanders supplement.

assuming this is a matched play event you guys will both want to snag the 2021 copy of chapter approved as this has the latest points adjustments and ALSO conveniantly has a copy of the matched play rules, which means a handy rules book with all the rules (the free rules lack some of that such as force orginization etc) although you can proably just find this information online if money's tight.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Ca also is more convenient to carry around than the brick and secondaries way superior to the ones in the brick.

Too bad gw took step back with bindieg method compared to ca20 :(
