Sorry - Probably a terrible review question but...
What is a good transport/storage solution? Something that will fit SM and various vehicles and a dreadnought or two.
I have seen some articles on hard/soft case and some options but those seem to be a couple years old.
TIA

Get a Rubbermaid of the size that works for you, get a piece of sheet metal, glue it to the bottom of the Rubbermaid. Get some magnets and hot glue them too the underside of the bases. Agreed. Great value. If you’re looking for basic figure storage, they are hard to beat

So this replaces the entire base it looks like? Storage and transport would them be an appropriate bin with a metal bottom I assume.
Vehicles would be bin with right sized foam then, or would they work with 2x of the larger sizes?

Cheapest and best option IMO 1. Magnets on bottom of bases. 2. Really useful box. 3. Ferro sheet on the bottom of box. 4. Enjoy & Profit No rubbing, bending snagging bits of you minins. No fathing around with foam bits trying to remember which guy goes where and which grooves belong to which guy. I have a KR multicase which I liked... Cut in inlets/grooves for barrels on my guys. I have a lot of eldar infantry. Since I switched to magnetic solution I haven't even looked at it once. The worse part is for the price of 1 KR case I could have had all the boxes set up and be left over with ££ to gte more models...

@tome_keeper... you got it... 100%
I tried the whole glue a magnet to the bottom of the base idea and i never had much luck. I tried gorilla glue and a few others and i would constantly be replacing magnets because they would pop off all the time.
For large models im sure you could use different bases but he has a bunch.
I just use foam

Have you tried a mxture of GS/ Epoxy of choice and superglue on top and bottom?

well that seems like an obvious fix doesnt it... lol. no i haven't but i will... usually i like to have the magnet flush to the bottom of the base for max grip but maybe i need to pull it back a little and cover it?
one thing that the mag bases are not good for are minis with tabs so this may be worth trying rather than cutting tabs off and gluing small feet to the bases.

I have never had issue myself. 25mm bases, 32mm bases, 40mm bases, 160mm bases, vehicles...on larger bases I put up 2/3/4 magnets. For vehicles I drill holes to tracks.
Trickiest thing are flying bases with clear bases. Unless you cover the base and base it like rest the holes with magnets kind of stick out. But then again...basing them isn't that bad. Ties them with rest of army over clear base.
Only issue I have ever had was with warmachine metal warjacks. Those were so heavy that while they were happily hanging upside down with magnets the glue for magnets wasn't up to task. But luckily these days I don't deal with all metal model the size of warjacks. And that I solved by submerging magnets in resin.

I have had a couple of bags in my gaming career - the old GW hardcase and Army Transport when the hardcase because too small - but I got a Battlefoam Bag back in 2009 and it is still doing the work for me. Damn thing has been all over the world from Singapore to Seattle and between (never done any trans-Pacific flights with it, though) and I biked around town with it twice a week for almost eight years.
I hear the Battlefoam owner is (or used to be) a bit of an insufferable snot, but his company makes excellent miniature carrying bags.
I have quite a few magnetized models, but eventually I went over to just doing that for my 3-15mm. Everything from 28 and up goes in my BF these days.

It really depends on what you need the case to do.
If you're just driving the army around in your car, and carrying it the short distance from the car to the club, you really don't need anything too excessive.
Honestly just bubblewrap in a shoebox can work absolutely fine.
Stuff like Battlefoam or KR Multi-case are wonderful, I love my old citadel hardcases. But they are expensive and you might not need anything quite that swank.

If you are willing to spend money there are plenty of options for a carrying case. If you dont want to spend a ton and just need a safe place to keep your models just buy a plastic tub (Rubbermaid or any other brand to be honest).
In addition any hardware store should also carry cubed pick foam for custom storage of power tools. Generally you can get a large sheet for 10 bucks and you can stack them in your plastic tub.

I confused two manufacturers. I don’t have any KR multicase. Doh!
I have a Feldherr storage box. Its foam is nearly identical to the old gw 36 figure trays. Works great and for $45 you can store 200 figures.

I've got Feldherr and Battlefoam, I use Feldherr for my old stuff since it can fit a lot of small troops and I usually do a pluck foam layer to fit vehicles or termies with large fancy bases.
I use Battlefoam for my newer things or for center piece models since you can do a custom tray to fit certain unusual shapes like Celestine for instance. Battlefoam is pricey so pick it up on one of their sales.

Thank you all! This is good information.
My current situation is good for storage - since everything has been in storage for a number of years, but not really not good for transport.
I suppose what I am looking for is a good flexible solution that covers storage and transport. 1 trip in to the store/match and 1 trip out with storage in between.
These are some excellent options!

KR foam in plastic locking totes is the best combination. Battlefoam are bad people and you shouldn't give them your money!

Why are Battlefoam bad people? You're gonna have to give a little more info than that.

I’ve always liked the idea of the Crystal Fortress cases. Combined storage, transport and display cases. Not cheap though

I picked up some of these trays a few years back and love them. The Game Plus foam trays fit inside these so I just grab the trays I need and toss them in the bag.
