Anyone here a fan of Kieron Gillen's Uber comic?

The short version is WWII with super powers.

The longer version is it's 1945 and the Soviets are at the gates of Berlin when German unleashes its final secret weapon, the Übermenschen, turning back the Soviet offense. Uber technology quickly spreads to the other combatants, new types of Ubers appear and somehow WWII gets much, much worse.

The characters are very well done, the history carefully researched and I like how Gillen sets rules for the Ubers early on. There are different classes from 'Tank Men' (strong and zap), Heavy Tank Men (2x strength), Blitzmen (2x zapping), up to Destroyers, Cruisers and at the top are Battleships who can raze cities and literally reconstruct matter. Interestingly none of the Ubers can fly (or teleport or whatever) so deploying and supporting them is a constant challenge.

Unfortunately the series stopped about 2 years back, probably because of troubles at Avatar Press though no one has really explained what the issue is

I read a rumor it may come back in 2021 but not holding my breath.

I'm a big fan but yeah its had a troubled time since it was near the end of the second series and suddenly stopped. I've a gut feeling I heard it was supposed to be several seasons long, but might get cropped to just finishing the second if they can.

I really hope it gets finished!

It was okay. Gillen is eh as well.

Like I said I really like it and hope for a return. Apparently Avatar Press has not solicited anything since 2019 (so don't blame COVID) but continues to hold the rights so Gillen can't take them anywhere.

Yeah it sounds like Avatar Press are in trouble if they've not done anything in 2 years in this field. The big risk is that they go under or tick over for years and just hold onto the rights of whatever they've got; preventing series from being continued and finished.

Esp in this day and age where a popular creator could easily take their creation to patreon and likely get enough money to fund their work to completion; then run a KS for printing if they can't get a publisher to take them up.



I know the guy behind Death Vigil and others has done that, though I believe he still publishes through Image Comics (fairly sure its Image but I've not double checked).



And yep Uber created a huge amount of questions even as the story played out. There's a huge potential for everything to get turned on its head.

I also like how his characters are quite human and whilst some revel in their power and destruction ;others find it a curse or a burden.
