Hello there!

Long time reading, first time posting.

Always been an avid Warhammer fan but after a "brief" hiatus (give or take 15 years) me and a few friends have finally decided to actually start collecting again. Between the three of us we've all decided on a 1,000pt Adeptus Astartes army, with the final choices being Dark Angels (me), Imperial Fists and Space Wolves.

I just wanted to post this little list on here and see if anyone had any advice and/or recommendations.

In case it wasn't obvious, we've generally gravitated towards Primaris units (pure vanity). Hence, why I don't have any squads of Deathwing Terminators in here. I'm considering going for a full 1,000pt addition of them should we decide to upgrade to 2,000pts.

**Chapter**: Dark Angels

Battle Size [6CP]: 2. Incursion (51-100 Total PL / 501-1000 Points)

yeah, for a 1000pts you do have some decent choices in there if you're focusing on new marines.
Not much I'd change until you've played a few games.

Hmm, could use another 20-30 Deathwing (no bias here obviously)... But aside from that it does look like a fun list for a more casual game. Enjoy!

Absolutely keep us posted on how things shake out - at this stage, it's all about throwing things at the wall to see what grokks to your style in any case, and you've avoided the "bad" choices from the Primaris range. Going forward, consider apothecary, incursors/infiltrators (the ones that screen out Deep Strike) and a delivery mechanism for more bigger bladeguard, but you have a lot to be learning right now and that lot ought to see you right.

So!

Had my first game versus the Imperial Fists player. Things I learned:

1) Bladeguard Veterans are absolute blenders. He had a unit that casually weathered a charge from an Outrider squad and then minced them in return.

2) But Deathwing Bladeguard Veterans are better. They, with their Deathwing Lieutenant in support, repayed the favour next turn.

3) A Smash-Chaplain is only useful if you actually screen properly for him. I badly mispositioned him Turn 2, something the Imperial Fist gun line was very happy to take advantage of.

4) Redemptors are beasts. Unlike my Chaplain, I did a good job keeping my Dreadnought out of sight from his anti-armour (Eradicators) and it deleted entire units.

Overall, it proved that the RW detachment does exactly what I want it to but I need to be sparing with them.

I’m leaning towards dropping the Intercessors (they did literally nothing) in favour of an Infiltrator squad to sit on the home objective. To create the points I’ll drop the Deathwing Lieutenant and bring a Librarian into the fold for that sweet sweet Interomancy.

I'm not sure its worth losing a lieutenant, but then, I'm biased towards re-rolls. Maybe a different squad with infiltrate rules?
