So, the Legions crashed the Cadian Gate, wrecked the planet, and split the galaxy in two with the Great Rift. Then what? What have they been up to since? Have they been building up their forces? Starting their own Empires in Realspace? I've seen the brief snippets in various rulebooks, but the only Legion centric novel set in the Post Rift period I've found is The Lords of Silence, and it's set immediately after the battle. Is there anything else? Besides Guilliman and his pretty boys slapping around Good Honest Heretics I mean.

Well there was Vigilus where everyone had a big smack down and the Loyalists "won".
There was Talledus where the Word Bearers, Iron Warriors, Emperors Children and Night Lords showed up and got rekt by the Loyalists because of course. Doesn't matter that Kor Phaeron himself was there.
A large portion of the Night Lords started a war with Ulthwe, IIRC.
The Death Guard built an empire in Ultramar called the Scourge Stars.
The Tsons retook Prospero and brought Sororitas into realspace.
Fabius did some stuff or something.

Well some of that is new information. Any particular book for the Death Guard empire (please tell me it isn't a Guy Haley book)? I assume Fabius "doing stuff" happens in his books.
And The Thousand Sons brought Sororitas into Realspace? Huh?

A lot of it is Psychic Awakening.
War of the Spider was very much just, Fabius has made new things, people don't like it and he's been a prat again. People try to kill Fabius.
The Death Guard empire is kind of spread all over the place. It was added to present a new threat to Ultramar Reformed and the T'au. Tzeentch and Slaanesh have launched invasions to try and take it from the Nurglites.
Because the Eye doesn't really exist anymore, the Legions in general needed new places to launch from. Most of them just invaded places but Magnus was just like "why invade a world when I can just take my old one back and bring my new one into reality?". So he did.

the scourge stars where first mentioned in the 8th edition BRB fluff section. I should note that they're not IN Ultramar just nearby. they where the staging point for the attack on Ultramar.

Ah, ok. The only Psychic Awakening book I've read is Faith and Fury. If most of these "new places" are in Realspace, wouldn't that help with getting new un-mutated recruits?
Also, on this:
Gert wrote:There was Talledus where the Word Bearers, Iron Warriors, Emperors Children and Night Lords showed up and got rekt by the Loyalists because of course. Doesn't matter that Kor Phaeron himself was there.
It seems that the Word Bearers and Iron Warriors definitely had "bad days", but the stories ended in the typical "the battle continues" kind of endings, so they aren't "rekt" just yet. And the Night Lords were said to be "delighted in the challenge provided by the Vanguard Space Marines". So it sounds like the 8th Legion were enjoying "playing" with their young cousins, at least.

Ok, that makes more sense. Thanks.

There are examples of those highly mobile Legion forces rampaging, it's just that they're mostly bits and pieces. The only full novel I've found is The Lords of Silence, where a Death Guard warband "wrecks" a couple of Imperial planets, including a loyalist chapter fortress monastery. Faith and Fury describes Night Lords raiding other fortress monasteries, stealing geneseed and munitions, and slaughtering everyone. Was just wondering if there was more.

The Dawn of Fire novels show a bit of this. The World Eaters and Word Bearers attempted to create a warp storm that would connect with the Great Rift, but were stopped by the Ultramarines and an inquisitor armed with Necron technology. Later on, the Word Bearers and Iron Warriors built a weapon on the funeral world of Gathalamor that could shoot capital ships out of the sky by harnessing the power of the souls of the dead.

The dark imperium should be the playground of the traitor legions, it would be disappointing if the story is that the imperium is holding it together by the skin of its teeth.
And for that matter it would be the right environment for many loyal chapter to lose its faith and go renegade and take over a system.

I feel like the Dark Imperium is the perfect place to have lots of battles and narrative campaigns because its near lawless space and plenty of crazy goings on. Is anything actually being written in there or have they gone dead silent on that?

The most detailed description of the Scourge Stars campaign is actually in the 8th edition rulebook, with tables about the fighting forces on each side and several battles. The novel series Dark Imperium/ Plague Wars and so on uses that background and shows some more indepth battles in Ultramar. The Fate of Konor Campaign also evolved around the DG attack on Ultramar. Despite GW claiming to use the outcome of that campaign in further publications I haven't seen it mentioned again.
DG also was on Vigilus, using Gellarpox Infected. I wonder if GW ever remembers these again.
Typhus has been hunting Fabius Bile because he stole the Eye of Darkness.

Spears of the Emperor is an interesting look at the Dark Imperium I think. It's an ADB book. I am looking forward to the rest of it.

This is what I'm looking for. But most of the information we have been getting is centered on the Imperium Sactus, therefore the loyalist point of view. The Legions could be rebuilding in the Nihilus half of the galaxy. But we don't hear much about it.

Been meaning to read that one, mostly because it's ADB. Do any of the Legions feature in it?

No, some chaos renegades but no legions in the first book anyway. It's all later founding chapters, to be honest I found that refreshing as all the info was new to me.

Renegades could be just as interesting as Legions, as long as they're well written. And since it's ADB, I assume they are. I have to pick this one up. Thanks for the information.
