Fellow WHFB enthusiast!

I would like to ask you a question about buying the current models for the game or wait till The Old World drops and purchase those minis instead.

My pros of continue buying the current line is that we dont know yet the aesthetic of TOW, but cons that they will dissepear after while ( we got roumors of up Dawnbringer Crusades, which will most likely to replace a lot of models ).

Lastly I want to say that one of my goals is to build a sizeable army for every faction in the setting.

"current" models is tricky as there are not much left from the old range and those models that are, are of questionable quality for most

if you are going retro and can get you fingers on some second hand 6th/7th Edi models/armies, go for it, it won't get cheaper and the classic design stands out also along the new models

There has been a MASSIVE resurgence of 6th WHFB love in my area, and most people are either old longbeards with armies, or newer guys using alternative models.

Personally I have 3k of WHFB dwarfs, but I also have 2k of Tomb Kings from TTcombat desert of the dead and I am starting a Bretonnian army of a mixture of Fireforge Albion Knights and some amazing 3d prints.

Never been a better time for WHFB in my opinion! There is a option for everything except wood elf infantry from what I can find.

I've bought 2K in WHFB 6th edition points of Dark Elves and Empire (2K each) this year since the models are awesome, always loved the factions' lore, almost their roster is still available from the GW site and their prices are really interesting.

Upcoming releases I fear will have current prices, which are too high for me. New sculpts also don't make me enthusiast, they're too dynamic for my tastes. That's why I had no hype about possible upcoming fantasy models, even if they return on square bases, and decided to go with classic miniatures.

Beastmen, Chaos, Lizardmen and maybe a few other factions are still available with their entire roster, or a large portion of it, and most of their kits are still priced like 10 years ago. Empire and Dark Elves also came with round bases in the vast majority of the kits I bought, only exceptions were Dark Elves (Anvilgaard) start collecting and Dark Riders.

Ultimately the only reasons I would not buy an army now rather than wait is wanting plastic Cathayan and Kislevite armies, nobody ready to play an older system while we wait for W:TOW to come out, or the prices. The prices are the worst for me personally. I need a 20 man Marauder unit to turn into Dogs Of War Crossbowmen for my Warriors army but I think the current boxed set is a touch salty still.

Looking for dice from the new AOS boxed set and Dark Imperium on the cheap. Let me know if you can help.

I am kind of with Blackie on this. Anything that GW puts into production will likely be out of my price range. On top of the price, the models that they have been putting out as of late simply are not the style that I am looking for any more, which is just as important as the price for me. It seems to me that the only way to get the style that I want is to get a 3D printer and print it out myself.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

My WHFB collection grew considerably after GW killed the system.
There are plenty of places to go. Some armies are un-effected by the transition to Age of Sigmar, others essentially extinct, all can be replaced with alternative sculpt miniatures.

If you want an easy way in and will only consider, or prefer Citadel miniatures then Daemons of Chaos, Vampire Counts, and Lizardmen, all are decent factions to choose, all are powerful and the full range is available or expanded. In fact it is now easier than before to buy those three factions as there are plastic miniatures not previously supported to add from the AoS range. You can also buy most of a Warriors of Chaos and Dark Elf army, with minimal second hand purchases required, and these units can be ignored.
Other factions are harder but you can still buy at least some of most factions brand new to back up alt-sculpt and second hand purchases.
The only formal factions you will have real trouble with sourcing from official GW models are Bretonnians and Tomb Kings. If you don't have them already don't bother. Though conversely not-Bretonnians are amongst the easiest to source.

If you want to buy WHFB the golden age of dirt cheap armies is gone, that lasted from about 2015-18, but you can still buy in easily enough. If you need help identifying whether auction lots are a good deal or not, or where to source third party miniatures suitable for a faction just ask.

It can be a tricky choice because you really don't know what will go and what will stay and what will or might change. Eg we know that its going to square bases but not how big those bases will be, some models could go up or down or their equivalents could if they are replaced. Not to mention all the line that has survived at GW is now sold with round bases not square.

My impression is that if there are any models that you are a die-hard fan of I'd get them now as they "might" vanish from GW central. Meanwhile if they are only accessible secondhand then their secondhand price is unlikely to go down (if anything second hand prices are still inflate after the shutdowns last year stripped ebay and secondhand stocks).

However I'd do so with a view that those models might only get part built (not based) or might need rebasing when the game comes out fully. You are looking at years before Old World hits the market so its not something to panic over; and the new models could blow you away far more than the old sculpts. That said we all have our favourites so I'd get them if you can and just slow grow an army for the future whilst focusing my main attention on another game/army for the now.

I think it is daft to pre for Old World, instead collect for WHFB. It is here now.
