Hi folks, I'm planning on painting my Kill Team stuff up in a jungle theme. I don't want to spend years doing so, so I'm aiming at painting to a good tabletop standard with the focus on speed and actually getting stuff finished. I'm looking for something I can use for quickly texturing the bases to look like a rich jungle earth. Similar sort of colour to Cygor Brown contrast. Any suggestions?

At the moment the Army Painter brown battleground tub doesn't look bad - but it looks more rocky than earthy. I was wondering if there was a texture paint / paste out there that was better? I guess my fall-back position would be to do the old PVA + sand, and then prime and paint, but that's 2 more steps than I really want to be doing... Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I really like Vallejo Earth Texture, you can water it down to your fit, its basically a paint/fine sand mixture. Apply with a modeling tool before or after priming depending on if you like the existing earth tone. While its wet you can sprinkle some small rocks/more sand, large pieces you should glue it down first. I use to do the glue and sand, but this pretty much put the 2 steps into 1 and its less fussy as before, as I had to worry about applying thin glue around the feet of the model.

Spoiler:

AS for jungle base finishing, you can add some swamp/jungle turf, lichen, skulls, other appropriate bits.

Ooh, the Vallejo brown earth paste looks pretty good colour-wise, I might try some of that.

Those Catachans look great, just the sort of thing I'm aiming for. Vaguely hoping they get some new models in the same vein as the recent character sculpts... Love my Ripper Jackson.

My approach to jungle bases:

1. Apply wood glue to base.
2. Coat with suitable sand.
3. Let it dry.
4. Bestial Brown.
5. Graveyard Earth (Drybrush).
6. Bleached Bone (Drybrush).
7. Icelandic moss.
8. Stones (for large bases).

Take a look at one of my battle reports in the 40K battle report section to get an idea for the final look (should be on the first three pages).
