Hey everyone,

I'm building a horde guard list and would like some feedback. I understand AM are having a rough time, but I enjoy the "average man" army idea and we will get a codex eventually.

The theme behind this list is an Escher gang hired out/bribed by the Inquisition, so I want to keep their gang themes as much as possible. Hence the emphasis on foot soldiers.

My plan is to have the Hades breaching drills deep strike with Command squads for midboard control and anti-vehicle/monster. I'll use the Tallarn Ambush strategem to outflank the Hellhounds and 2x special weapons squads for either a distraction carnifex role or to support the midboard. This is all while the troops advance for control through flood of bodies.

My current meta is mostly SM, BA, BT, Drukari, Thousand Sons and Necron.

In addition to general criticism, I have several questions:

Are hellhounds appropriate for the above role? Or would a squad of armored sentinels w/flamers fulfill the same role for less points? Or possibly a Tank Commander w/demolisher?

Would some Bullgryns/Ogryns be better to outflank with the hellhounds?

Would more sentinels vs squads be worth the points? Or will they both die just as fast lol

Is Tallarn a good fit for this? Alternative options would be custom regiment with Disciplined Shooters and Wilderness Survivors/Agile Warriors

My first thought is that you're going to need a lot of Escher models, a lot! Is your plan to get loads of boxes of Eschers or are you using other models too? How about an army that consists of various Necromunda gangs, not just Escher? That way you don't need to assemble and paint so many Eschers, you can have some other gangs too. Models you can use in Necromunda too. I have a similar theme to my Imperial Guard army, it's an Inquisitor's retinue full of various different models, including a lot of the old metal Necromunda models.

If you already own all the models you need then you can ignore what I say above, just something to think about.

I think Hellhounds are good for what you propose. On the plus side when your opponent kills them they might explode and cause some extra damage that way.

Speaking of Demolishers, I think your army would benefit from one or two of these. Not necessarily outflanking, just to add some needed heavy weapon support. You will need to get rid of one or two squads of Heavy Weapon Teams, as well as other things, to pay for this. I think it will serve you well though, as long as it doesn't deviate too far from the theme you're going for.

Bullgryns (or converted Slave Ogryns? ) are currently a good addition to pretty much any Guard army, as they are one of the most competitive choices at the moment. I wouldn't outflank them though, I would use them to support your Infantry Squads.

I don't think Sentinels are any more durable than Infantry Squads. The two you have are fine. Though if you take my advice and add a Demolisher or two you might want to get rid of one or both.

My current plan is use a gak load of Escher models, since they canonically look down on anyone who isn't female. I already have five boxes purchased. I also have some AoS witch elves I will convert for different boxes.

For the hellhounds, I will kit bash some chimera hulls and big tank/chemical bits to look cobbled together with a Mad Max/cyberpunk flair.

For the ratlings, I thought I could use the archer models from the Escher Death Squad boxes.

For bullgryns, I thought to use the Death Maidens.

I will strongly consider a Tank Commander, since they can order other vehicles around now.
