Hi folks,
I started playing 40k with the 2nd edition box set, passing through Space Marines, Dark Eldar and Imperial Guard on my way to 5th edition, where I sold up. I've recently got the modelling bug again and am starting to build something in the Warlord scale for Tyranids, as I don't really like the spindly look of the Heirophant (and it's only Warhound-level anyway, apparently). I've been going through Mr_Pink's blog Modern Synthesist and feel that, ranking myself against that standard, I can probably reach ~8/10 with a bit of time and practice.
While I'm not really planning to play with it myself - my current thought is that I could auction off the giant symbol of endless extragalactic hunger to raise money for a famine relief charity - I would like it to be both playable and effective for whoever does buy it. The thing is, last time I played, Apocalypse was about slapping down as many large D-strength templates as possible and the guides I can find relate to Adeptus Titanicus (which I had never even heard of...) I have no idea how the current system works, as there now seem to be huge numbers of hits and wounds thrown around in lieu of templates.
I've thought of rough analogues for several weapons:
Arioch Power Claw with Vulcan Mega Bolter/Crushing claws with Spine Banks
Inferno Cannon/Venom spray
Plasma Annihilator/Bio-Plasma Projector
Quake Cannon/larger version of Rupture Cannon
Apocalypse Missile Launcher/Spore Mine battery
Are any of these good under the new rules? Rubbish? Is a titan likely to spend lots of time duking it out in CC or is it likely to never reach another unit?
Really hoping someone can offer some advice, as I find having an idea of function helps guide form.
