My son is keen on this game, very intrigued.
Thus far we are deep into Age of Sigmar, multiple armies committed.

in your experience, what are the three best things, and three issues / concerns with AT?
Perhaps I can provide him some insight from all of you.

1. Models are all excellent kits to build, fun to paint, and look really cool. Even non Warhammer people usually like them out of all my models.
2. The game has the best ruleset of any GW product. You really feel like you're commanding titans with the reactor phase, worrying about their facing and how many times they can turn during their movement, etc.
3. 4-6 models is all you will need for full point games (1500-2000 pts). Much cheaper to get the rules and a full army than any other GW game

Complaints
The recent releases rubbed people the wrong way because all the previous titans could swap weapons. The warmaster and iconoclast are somehow 2 totally different titans that can't share weapons or reactor cards. The speculation is that GW wanted to force everyone to buy 2x $160 models instead of one model and one upgrade sprue like you can do with the Reaver and Warlord. Also there are a lot of different books that can be hard to find if you want ALL of the rules.

To be fair, those complaints don't matter much to newcomers. Warmasters are too big to appear in normal games and to get most of the relevant rules, you just need the Rulebook and Loyalist / Traitor Legio books.

But yeah, I agree on the pros. Great rules, great models, it's a thinker's game of manouvre and resource management with big explosions. Games are won on the field, not in the list building step.

I'm in the Best GW game ever camp.

Just focus on one maniple and play with that until you understand all of the gameplay. Then, branch out into other types of lists etc...

Best things...

1) Giant robot action! Can be played with the titans or knights, both offering very different gameplay experiences.
2) A fantastic starter set that provides all you need to build an solid titan legion, only lacking a terrain pack for a full experience.
3) The setting; the Horus Heresy is full of dark tragedy. The loss of a titan is a big deal and is reflected in the gameplay.

Worst things...

1) Frustrating release schedule and recently an overreliance on FW, which is eye-wateringly expensive and a deal breaker for most.
2) The terminals, weapon cards and magnetizing of titan weapons can be soul destroying after a while( some kits don't come with terminals, reavers are very awkward to magnetize their arms )
3) Knights can be too simple, while the titans may be too complicated for some.

...but I recommend trying a game at a local gaming club before splashing out.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

It is "affordable". it is cheaper to collect 5 titans then it is a regular force for aos/40k (aslong as yu dont go 5 warlords) the game is skirmish. (unless you go full knight force but that is a different topic)
It has the best core rules set to come from GW in A LOOONG time.
It has the same 3 styles of play as aos/40k has; open,narrative,matched.


The titans do not come with all weapon options in the kits with the exeption beeing knights and warhounds, you will need to buy the weapon sprues if they are avalible or the other version of the titan.
The game relies on a solid well terrain covered board as weapons is from sight to sight point, a warlord whitout any terrain high enugh to block its weapons can just snipe from the deployment zone and do alot of damage if the dices are willing.
The game places all special weapons with forgeworld and there is alot of expansion books with new rules that has been released over the years, enugh to actualy get confused.


The game is placed in 30k setting in the horus heresy and there is no official exenos, so that can be a bummer for some. Aseembly can be a bit daunting as there is about same amount if not more parts then there is in aos/40k, despite AT is a mutch smaller scale. (8mm vs 28mm for the main ranges)
