Seeing there didn't seem to be an all emcompassing "post yer MoW-stuff"-thread, I took the liberty of creating one.

Anyway, the one game I'd always wondered about but never played is GW's Man O'War. A couple of months ago I noticed that somebody had remodelled many MoW-ships in 3D and put them up on thingiverse, so I printed out fleets for the Skaven, Chaos Dwarves, Dark Elves, the Dwarves, and the Orks. Of course, I haven't even painted half of the stuff yet. I usually start out quick and then as soon as I get to the details progress slows to a crawl, so it takes me forever to actually finish anything...

Here's some of the stuff I'm working on/ have finished:

It's cool that the dwarves have two Manowars and several types of flyers, but I'd preferred more basic ship types. You probably have to have at least two or three squadrons of monitors in your fleet, which looks a bit boring IMHO.

Anyway, on to the other ships:

Some of the terrain I made (mainly bark, flock, and 3d prints):

more unfinished terrain:

And this is what it all looks like together:

Not a big fan of the gaming mat since it's the wrong scale (see sunken shipwreck in the middle) and it's too cheery/ Carribbean-y, but it cost less than 20 Eurobucks and I figured I shouldn't spend big money on a game I haven't even played yet...

That terrain looks spectacular - really makes me want to give the game a try. Great job!

It certainly has that narly early 90s GW flavour - we'll see how it plays, I've heard it described as random, cinematic and chaotic fun.

Yes to all three, and it also requires a lot of tracking and somewhat fiddly resolution as many GW games of the age had.

That said, I like it until all the flyers and magic get involved in Plague Fleet. Then it starts to feel less like a naval game.

I printed out and laminated the ship cards that the Esoteric Order of Gamers made, hopefully doing away with most of the markers. We'll see how clunky it still is then...

I'm a bit torn on whether I should include Plague Fleet straight away - I love the Chaos Dwarves, Skaven and Nurgle fleets, but I've read that chaos magic is just too powerful. I don't have the chaos magic cards, so I guess I'll use the houserule someone else on bgg suggested: chaos fleets have to use colour magic, too.

@church Thanks for making this thread, it will spur me on to get my stuff finished and get back to playing. Your paint jobs and terrain are superb mate, really inspirational.

@dougal You have no idea how long i have been searching for alternate models, and yours look great. I'll be placing an order in the new year for sure.

Re: plague fleet, my plan is for a campaign tp hold back a chaos invasion, so I like that they are over-powered, makes the good guys all the more heroic! Chaos terrain is loads fo fun too.

In general I find it's a game that benefits from a little scenario prep, even a gamesmaster (who can have loads of fun himself using sea monsters).

Great paintjobs OP! I too have gotten into MoW thanks to Nathan Hunt (barnebiss2)'s resculpts. Sadly my printer went on the fritz with only 2 fleets done.

My terrain set is from GW's Dreadfleet

I'm also 75% done sculpting an original Ogre whaling fleet.

And I've been making some upgrades to those... suboptimal... Orcs from Etsy

Thanks for the nice words mate! Make sure you post your scenario description, I'm sure it will be heaps of fun.

lots of awesome pics

- Woah man, those are quite the fleets. How did you get the finish on the Dwarf ships - oil colours? Also, cool idea to paint the Skaven's flamer tanks in a warpy yellow-green - this way, your opponent will know what's coming his way! Sorry to hear about you rprinter, though; Fortunately, good printers can be had for less than 150 bucks nowadays...
- Re: the Ogre whaling fleet, wicked job man, absolutely wicked. Are there (preferably playtested) rules for it somewhere on the net, or did you just decide that the world needs an Ogre fleet? I really like the improvements you've made for the Ork ships as well. Man, I can't wait to see everything printed and painted.

Thanks man. It's uh, literally just Basilicanum Gray contrast over white.

Making my own rules, not confident sharing yet, will playtest

Inspirational and pretty stuff in this thread. Had a weak spot for Dystopian Wars tables and this seems to be similarly encouraging to make fun terrain and tables

Haven't done much for MoW lately but I'm set on trying it out in 2024 for sure, juts gotta paint up two wind powered fleets, don't want my first games to be without the core mechanics.
