So i just recently started getting interested in warhammer again after 5 years since my last interaction and im unable to decide which of two armies to start with,
these two armies being Tyranids and necrons, i love the look of both of them look but i would rather also have one which atleast is good or atleast decent when actually playing aswell, which of these two would you recommend for beginner?

I’m no expert but based on what I have seen here necrons are better competitively.

Necrons have had more attention than tyrannies from games workshop recently, I can’t remember the last release for nids

Necrons for sure, as they are edition's big baddies and recently received a massive array of new models. They're also very cheap to pick up on sites like eBay as there are so many people playing them at the moment.

Don't pick based on how a competitive an army is as that can change at the drop of a pin. Necrons have the newer book & Tyranids might be a while away from getting a 9th ed codex but the latter did just receive an injection through Octarius.

Necrons.
Their book is new here in 9e, so you're not in any danger of a new version anytime soon, all their rules are in the codex - vs 'Nids - who're stil using their 8th ed book + extra rules in 2 other books. You can make numerous decent or better lists, they're pretty easy to play, there's plenty of great models AND they're easy to paint to a suitable quality.

OTOH necrons have got their codex already and aren't in good position atm overall. Tyranids are unknown. They could be broken op, could be junk when their codex comes up. But they have next chance to be good.

Does make starting necrons safer now though as at least you know mediocrity you are getting to already without having to worry about new book in next one or two years(well 2 might be pushing it)

From a practical standpoint it is cheap to get your hands on Necron models.

Tyranids is a bit exspensive army to grab. If you need 30 termagants that is 660 nok, ish. 6 hiveguards another 600 nok. Etc.

A lot of people have unused Necrons from the last year. And the resent update that made a lot of units core in the Necron codex those unused miniatures became good.

Tyranids are more competitive at the moment if you are looking to build the most competitive list from one of the two factions. Necrons have more internal balance, so there's some good units, some bad units and a whole lot of mediocrity. Tyranids have one insane unit, some good units and a lot of bad units. Which units and factions are competitive will change as soon as points are revamped with Chapter Approved, which will be in the next 4 months, on top of that there is quarterly errata.

Necrons are very good for someone that isn't familiar with the current edition. They're cheap, fast to paint, easy to play and very solid for casual games.

They might not be top tiers in the tournament setting but by the time someones get a whole painted 2000 points collection of models things and the state of the game will be completely changed anyway, so their actual impact on the tournament scene is completely irrelevant, Necrons are not a bad army. They're pretty good actually.

Tyranids synergies are going to change pretty soon instead, and considering that they're also a very expensive army I wouldn't recommend start them in this moment. Unless it's the army someone wants to collect/play no matter what since they're an awesome faction.
