Just got back into the hobby. Never played nids before and wanted to do something different this time around. Already purchased the getting started box set.

But from what I can find on Google. I have a few questions.
Is there a 9th edition?
Should I get the newest nids codex still?
I have to munitorum on my phone. Is that info correct?

Thanks for all advice.

Yup 9th edition exists and is the current edition right now.

It's hard to say in terms of getting the current Tyranif codex, because Tyranids currently don't have an updated codex for 9th edition but GW released a bunch of supplementary material to get them by which can be annoying for someone new to hunt down and even then it might be invalidated soon since they are one of the last codices that need to be updated. If you are planning to play in a GW store, you may have to. If you're playing with friends then you can just use wahapedia for the time being, it'll be much easier for you to navigate and learn the rules without overinvesting.

save your money for now. Use battlescribe, wahapedia.

Take a look at Crusher stampede.

Not sure what you mean by this, Grim - could you clarify?

As has been pointed out, Tyranids are still on a Codex from 8th, and we haven't got any information as to if/when they will get a 9th 'dex - this also applies to the Imperial Guard, so you're not alone in that regard. The current point values are in the Munitorum Field Manual, and I believe the current version of that is in with Chapter Approved. Power levels (an alternative way of building an army) got an update which is in the Downloads section of the Warhammer Community website.

"Crusher stampede", referred to by Manchild, is in White Dwarf 471.

I'd advocate for not being a pirate, however.

This is, emphatically, why I will continue suggesting nuking Guard and starting over again. It's a legacy army that needs to be rebooted with a new focal point.

Confirmation of why no-one should listen to Kanluwen when it comes to the IG - he doesn't want the IG, he want's Kan's New Model Army...

If you subscribe to Warhammer+, the rules should be in the app. It’s only when the new codex comes out that they pull the legacy content.

That should get you up and running. There are more rules in other scattered places, but not sure if/when we are going to get a new book, and if they are going to be consolidated.

Thank you for all the replies. Looks like I have a lot of reading to do.
