Hi all,

I've just built 10 Chaos Marines from the new box set. The instructions suggest you can make 2 aspiring champions, or one champion and a normal marine.

Based on the parts available, after building a melta gunner, plasma gunner and 6 bolter marines, I built a champion with power fist and plasma pistol.

I wanted to make a final bolter marine from the 2nd champion model, but none of the bolter arm combinations would work. I had to make a bolt pistol/ chainsword marine from it instead.

Now I'm either an idiot, or this set doesn't have the parts to make 7 bolters, 1 melta, 1 plasma and 1 champion.

Is that right?

There are 2 bolters left on the sprue, and two sets of arms, but no combination of these arms work with either bolter.

I've never had as much bother with a set of instructions either - several parts were mis-numbered on the sprues, and some parts were tricky to follow.

For context, I've been doing this for 30 years, so I'm well accustomed to building models.

Any tips welcome!

I've forgotten exactly what I did when I assembled mine, but I can remember having a similar issue.

I would suggest cutting the bolt pistol from the hand, then replacing it with a bolter. You should have a spare knife that you can replace the chainsword with.

I had considered doing that, but each of the spare bolters has the left hand modelled on the handguard of the rifle, so the fingers and thumb would need to be filed away. Or I could maybe find a bolter in an old bits box (I hadn't thought of that!), although it may look a bit amiss as the sizes are slightly different.

Looking at the instructions, it certainly looks like depending on which sculpt you pick as the aspiring champion, the other (if you don't want to build two champions) can only be modelled with close combat weapon and pistol. That seems like a bit of a miss on GW's part.

Not a big deal as I have the Shadowspear CSMs, so can mix and match between them. I really only wanted check it wasn't just me!
