Hey Friends, I always struggle with bassing my models to the point that much of my army(s) are left with ugly unfinished bases. My orks are a simple sand base with a brown coat and a tan drybrush (badlands look). My Dark Angels are about the same with a little bit of flock or grass here and there. When it comes to my Word Bearers however, I have no idea how I should base them. All of the models I have painted so far are on the darker end. (Khorne red, silver, nuln oil wash) so I am thinking something brighter to help them pop.
I am open to suggestions, especially if you have some photos to go along with it.
Thanks!

Snow bases are also easy to add to already finished models.
Alternatively, you could have them despoiling some grasslands. Green is opposite red on the color wheel.
What sort of accent colors do you have besides red?

Green for the eyes, gems, and pale purple for the cables and wires.

I don't know what your basing budget is, but it sounds like the colours you're talking about would pop well on something like:

Something like what I do for my Blood Angels might be good. My recipe is Armageddon Dust texture paint, shaded with Agrax Earthshade, and then drybrushed with Karak Stone. I then use Modpodge and glue some Woodland Scenics green flock to the base. I use both fine and coarse turf, putting the coarse on first and then the fine turf. If you don't want to use any flocks, static grass tufts are also a good alternative. The Army Painter, Games Workshop, and Gamer's Grass are just a few places that offer static grass tufts.

I would rather not rebase them all but that "look" is not bad, I do like that. Automatically Appended Next Post: ShadowsAndDust wrote:Something like what I do for my Blood Angels might be good. That could work, it makes that red pop.
