I saw this discussion on a Tau FB page and some were arguing that this allows you to move and still perform a Markerlight action as you count as remaining stationary?

It's only stationary in the shooting phase, not at any other point. Also, you start markerlibhts in yiur command phase, before moving and advancing, meaning you instantly lose the marker lights.

While Nosferatu is correct about this for the most part, do remember that pathfinders can start the action in the movement phase instead of the normal rules so would be allowed to markerlight even though they advanced while under M'ontka.

huh? markerlights normally start at the beginning of the movement phase. pathfinders start theirs at the end. advancing would disallow them to to any action AND again mont'ka is just in the shooting phase.

hey what time is it?

The crux of the markerlight argument relies on Mont'ka also applying in the Movement phase:

MONT’KA: Each time this unit makes a Normal Move or Advances in your Movement phase, until the end of your Shooting phase, it counts as having Remained Stationary.

So while it lasts until the end of the Shooting phase, it also counts as Remain Stationary for the remainder of the Movement phase as soon as the unit moves or advances (as well as throughout the Psychic phase). That is what allows it to complete the markerlight action.

Goo hammer has an excellent write up on how stupid it would be for mintka to allow marker lights after advancing.

As long as they don’t Advance per point 9 of the Rare Rules for Counts as Remaining Stationary.

Whelp, you have to ask yourself, would GW make a rule for a unit that inherently breaks core rules, in a way to benefit that unit's core faction ability?

Or less antagonistically: Would GW accidentally write a rule in a brand new codex, that would inevitably require a day-1 patch/FAQ to alter it?
