I looked at the top 15 players and only at their top 6 placings (as your top 6 determines your end of season score) so that gives 90 in total:
Drukhari 29
Aeldari 4
Harlequins 3
Cult Mechanicus 16
Skitarii 1
Dark Angels 7
Black Templars 1
Deathwatch 1
Blood Angels 1
Forces of the Hive Mind 4
Hive Fleet Leviathan 3
Tyranids 2
Orks 6
Freebooterz 1
Adepta Sororitas 3
Grey Knights 3
Adeptus Custodes 2
Chaos 1
Imperial Knights 1
T'au Empire 1
You'll see I didn't just order them from highest to lowest as I grouped a couple of factions/super factions together.
So knife ears get 36 out of 90.
Poster boys get 10 out of 90 and actually come in 3rd behind elves and admech. 4th goes to Tyranids and 5th to Orks.
And the entire Chaos super faction, consisting of Chaos Space Marines, Death Guard (9th ed codex Jan 2021), Thousand Sons (9th ed codex August 2021), Chaos Daemons, special Belakor Army of Renown (July 2021) and Chaos Knights, gets 1 out of 90.

I'll tip my hat to the Harlequin players! I've recently been trying to learn how to play that army and I feel like every game is on hard mode. One mistake and I get severely punished likely costing me the game.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |

Dark Angels got good representation. I'm honestly surprised Iron Hands and Black Templars didn't steal more of their thunder though. BT probably would have if their book had come out a bit earlier.

I'm guessing the Harlies were from some of the earliest tournaments, but I also tip my metaphorical hat to them whenever I see them.
For the Marines, currently BT are usually 3+/5++ can't be wounded on 1s and 2s. While DA are 1+/4++ can't be wounded on 1s, 2s and 3s via their terminators. I've been to a few tournaments while "Space Marines are bad" and had my teeth kicked in by good players running Iron Hands successors, Space Wolves succesors and Dark Angels.

Yeah, SM aren't bad. It the old same SM exaggeration. They do have multiple competitive builds.
No one would say orks are bad but goffs, blood axes and freebooterz are not. They'd say orks are good because they have a few competitive builds even if some klans cannot possibly field a competitive list, which is a concept that SM players typically fail to apply to their army. For them if most of the chapters don't win tournaments, the entire army is bad and the SM lists that place high are exceptions that don't count.
Those DA in particular are pretty solid.

Honestly want to know what the top IG army was, considering they barely placed.

Oh look, it's old, nonsense Dakka 'twisting the narrative into pretzel' to justify inane SM prejudices SM are garbage. The faction is being carried by FW pay to win junk (less so now that it had been nerfed) and a few cheese bits from DA and BT books. If you play something else than DA terminators or BT vow abuse (that will most likely be nerfed soon)? Then with 90% certainty whatever build you like now enjoys 30-40% winrate at even slightly competitive games, never mind tournaments. To call it ""nOt BaD" is so utterly insane (you don't even need to compare it to DE, Eldar, Tau and AM, they are getting trashed by even mid line books if their player knows what they are doing) it pretty much is flat earthism of 40K world...

If we talk about tournament level isn't it the same about most of the other armies, that aren't considered "trash"? Orks for example. Or tyranids.

Yes SM are very expensive to play competitively as you will need a massive selection of units to stay meta over time.
They are still strong though, as the sheer number of data sheets always gives something.
SM overall are definitely not complete garbage. You can generally slap together a primaris force and have something that can go 2 or 3 wins out of 5, as plenty of the datasheets are solid. They give you a chance in some games, but don't give you that turn one/two alpha strike the FW/terminator/vanvet builds do. The primaris builds were around DG/Necron level although Necrons should have the edge after receiving points drops.
But even Dark Eldar are expensive. If you think of someone that has been net listing all year, they probably would have ran at some point:
1 Drazhar
2 Archon
2 Succubus
1 Haemonculus
15 Court of the Archon
30 Kabalites
30 Wyches
30 Wracks
10 Grotesques
10 Mandrakes
15 Incubi
10 Helions
10 Reavers
10 Scourges
6 Talos
3 Chronos
3 Ravagers
5 Raiders
5 Venoms
Dark Technomancers pre the nerf, then the melee heavy builds, then the builds that spammed cheap dark lances, then the thicc city builds.
Its kind of why I like the TSons. Buy the Ahriman start collecting, 4 boxes of terminators, 2 extra boxes of rubrics and 1 HQ box and you've got a solid core of what you ended up using all year.

.Only a fool believes there is such a thing as price gouging. Things have value determined by the creator or merchant. If you don't agree with that value, you are free not to purchase. |
