Looks like mostly firstborn named characters. 12 of the 19. They're hinting more will be rotating out - this is just the "first" round, but I'm wondering if this couples with the rumor of new supplements and some of these guys crossing the Rubicon Replace Your Stuff.

I would bet. Or it's GW doing typical GW gak behavior that nobody will really care about

I don't know. I suspect people will care and lose their minds when these guys rotate back in and Xenos & Chaos factions suddenly can't buy HQ models they can't afford to lose to a 'rotation.'

For SM, this trivial. For everybody else, its going to be kick in the teeth, because there are entire army ranges smaller than the SM HQ section.

Assuming that happens. I suspect models “go on rotation” when the mold/model is getting replaced. I’d bet usually we don’t even know because its one model here and there that’s just Sold Out Online. Some of them - like the Flesh Tearers shoulder pads may not be coming back, some of them - like Cronus, Telion, and Corbulo may come back as Primaris. This feels like an announcement to get people to buy up the left overs, and have enough downtime before new releases so people are pissed the bought the old one the week before the new one goes on pre-order.

I still say its going to be very interesting what they do with Tycho.

Yes, its a 'go buy leftovers' announcement.

But I think we can assume that it'll hit other ranges in the future. That seems to be the entire point of a rotation.

Not sure why Tycho would be interesting at all- he died in the 90s (?), and afaik no one has bothered to reference him this century. What's one more dead vampire angel? Current fluff is half the chapter (and successors) were butchered by tyranids, and instantly replaced by Primaris reinforcements.

What is interesting are these models are things they'd want to sell if the SM Chapter supplements get redone. That they're burying them for the time being suggests those books aren't happening any time soon (despite a few rumors to the contrary)

In theory. Mostly that seems to be random accusations rather than the topic itself, so this seems to be a better place to talk about the knock-on effects.

It'll probs be named characters, duplicate kits and older sculpts. Stuff like Aun'Va, Vespids, maybe the Phoenix Lords. The article doesn't say how often the rotations will be though.

they dont have a fixed timeline for bringing them back, thats why.

most of these kits are special characters, and kits that the average hobbist wouldn't buy more than one of. Their all going to be quite low-volume sellers, so they might as well "retire" them, but they don't want to retire the associated datasheets, and they dont want to break "no model, no rules", so if they are "In rotation", they can keep the datasheets around without having to keep stock on the shelf, and maybe if they feel like its worth it, bring back a few of them to coincide with a suitable book release (for example, the imp fist characters when a 9e imp fists book drops, or Lucas the trickster can come back with a new black library book about his exploits. etc)

i imagine that some of these will get new sculpts by the time they come back, as well. but i imagine this is mainly a logistics driven decision(think of how many new "vs" boxes you could keep in the same shelf space that these guys occupy, and how much more cash those new boxes would make over this motely crew), and the announcement is a way to clear stock and get the shelfs empty quickly.

To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.

Well, I think this will mostly hit models where every time you scroll the GW page you think, oh, I didn't know they still sell that one.
Like some servitors, Inquisitors (the whole faction, really ), Ork Banner nob, old Chaos Champions, sniper drones, all the finecrap they still haven't bothered to replace but will at some point. But since GW doesn't know either when they replace some of those they actually aren't lying when they say some of these might return updated
