Hi - I was recommended using a sonic cleaner for plastic and finecast model painting stripping.

Has anyone any experience of using one of these for plastic and finecast model painting stripping and if so what the results are like?

TIA

Stripped over 100 plastic minis, no problems. I'd worry more about what stripping agent you use on resin/plastic than the ultrasonic cleaner.

Well, it's possible to just use regular dish soap but usually you have to soak stuff in something harsher to strip the paint to make the ultrasonic go quicker. Like Isopropyl Alcohol, Dettol, or any one of dozens of automotive degreasers like Simple Green or Purple Power/Super Clean.

Ask 10 gamers what they use and you'll get 12 answers. I use Purple Power/Super Clean (Walmart in North America) and I've soaked plastic literally for months in that stuff with no damage. But be sure to read the label and use protective gloves/eye protection, rinse them in water after soaking and use the ultrasonic with tap water and a bit of dish soap.

I'm sure there are threads on Dakka you can look up about what paint stripper to use.

Had been using dettol and mr muscle but neither turned out well for me - might try a not too expensive sonic cleaner see how it goes will check ebay

Basically the ultrasonic cleaner is just automating the scrubbing process. You still have to chemically loosen the paint.

Bio strip 20 is great and doesn’t stink the place up like dettol. And the paint comes away real easy so I doubt you’d need to invest in a sonic cleaner

It’s even sold on one of the FLGS websites, mighty lancer I think. Let us know how you get on, one thing I would mention is wear some disposable gloves, the only side effect of bio strip 20 is that it makes your skin so smooth that you can hold on to a pencil. It’s a strange side effect.

Finally used my bottle of Bio Strip 20 on some test paint schemes on GW Primaris SM and some older GW IG. sprayed onto models in a trat and left for approx 2 hours then washed them down in warm water and scrubbed with a toothbrush. Results are very good I'd say 95% of the paint came away from the models more than enough for me so ill wash down again with hot soapy water tomorrow before spraying base coats. I have more SM scouts put in to soak now. Thanks for the advice on this product i am very happy with the results. PS I wore plastic disposable gloves while applying and removing the model strip.
