Battle Forge: Open Source 40k Rules

Hey all. I've been working on this quite a while but wanted to share and hear some thoughts.

I have created an open source alternative to Warhammer 40k, age of sigmar and bolt action, all wrapped up in a modular set of rules, loosely based on gates of antares. Every game "module" is cross compatible and age of sigmar armies are balanced to be played against 40k armies with extensive play testing done to make sure this works well.

It also has a skirmish format, perfect for trying out the game with around 5-10 models per side if you don't want to commit to playing a full sized battle.

All the source code is available and I welcome merge requests on the army data to fill in missing or new and creative units.

Everything is defined in json format and automatically read by the app sort of like battle scribe. It is then automatically pointed for the most part based on some formulas and rule costs defined at the game level.

The APP includes a full army builder similar to battle scribe and any custom units you define are immediately available to use in it. The APP serves as a reference point for all the rules you need while playing. Lists can also be printed out if you prefer a hard copy for playing.

Some game highlights

* Alternate activation with a reaction system for back and forth interactive playing

* Flexible two action system giving your units many options when performing their move

* Competitive mission format with primary and secondary objectives to keep you guessing your next move

* Shock based morale system for command and control

* Detailed force building with detachment and unit types for varied and flexible forces

* Strategy point system for temporary unit bonuses with unique strategies for each faction and subfaction

* D10 based dice system allowing for flexibility in unit stats as well as simpler rolls and a more detailed save system

The whole thing is provided completely for free and is developed by a community who simply wants a good, tactical and flexible wargame. It is ever expanding and we welcome and feedback or help with the project.

Just want to say that this is an absolutely brilliant effort! Antares is a favourite of mine and you've done wonders with the core rules, stripping tnem back into something tight and fast.

Looking forward to seeing how this develops.

I have a lot of reading to do now...
