Hi all, interested in feedback on a list I've put together for the new Codex. Mostly makes use of the models I have available to field, less an Avatar, Falcon, Windriders and some more Fire Dragons. I've calculated it to exactly 2000 points.
Battalion Detachment:
HQ (Warlord): Farseer Skyrunner with Singing Spear
HQ: Autarch with Star Glaive, Fusion Gun, Faolchu's Wing (relic)
Elite: 10 Dire Avengers, Exarch with Diresword/Pistol, Stand Firm
Dedicated Transport: Wave Serpent with Twin Shuriken Catapult, Twin Starcannon
Elite: 10 Dire Avengers, Exarch with Diresword/Pistol, Stand Firm
Dedicated Transport: Wave Serpent with Twin Shuriken Catapult, Twin Starcannon
Elite: 5 Fire Dragons, Exarch with Firepike, Blazing Fury
Elite: Wraithlord with Ghostglaive, 2 Shuriken Catapults, 2 Starcannons
Troops: 5 Rangers, Gloomfield
Troops: 5 Rangers, Gloomfield
Troops: 10 Guardian Defenders, Bright Lance Platform
Dedicated Transport: Wave Serpent with Twin Shuriken Catapult, Twin Bright Lance
Fast Attack: Vyper with Twin Shuriken Catapult, Bright Lance
Fast Attack: Vyper with Twin Shuriken Catapult, Starcannon
Fast Attack: Vyper with Twin Shuriken Catapult, Starcannon
Flyer: Crimson Hunter Exarch, 2 Bright Lances, Swooping Evasion
Heavy Support: Falcon, Twin Shuriken Catapult, Scatter Laser
Not particularly heavy on troops but it seems mobile with a lot of firepower. I haven't really played since 7th so interested in feedback on its viability in 9th. Open to new purchases, however interested to see how what I have for the moment would fare.

I think the codex is out in a week or so and we have no idea how much that list is going to cost points wise. Also I think you're even behind on the current codex. You might want to check on your Dire Avengers being Elite, I think they're troops now. I'd just pick up the new one when it comes out and start from there.
Also, if the leak for the new Avatar I saw is accurate, he could be practically auto-take. And not just because the new model is gorgeous.

First thing I noticed, I don't believe you can have the same Exarch power twice in your army so I think you'll need to swap out one of the Stand Firms. I would also recommend something besides the Dire Sword for the DAs, perhaps a Shimmer Shield or twin-Shuriken Catapults.
Are the Fire Dragon's going in the Falcon? Being able to turn 1 drop pod in is quite nice but remember that the unit and it's occupants must stay outside 9" when choosing Exarch powers. I'd also recommend the Pulse laser for the Falcon.
The Vypers make a useful screen, if you wanted to you could leave one on your backfield objective. There's a relic jetbike that gives an HQ objective secured which you may find handy if you're moving rapidly up the board.
Have you decided if you'll be running a specific craftworld or a custom craftworld?

Hi guys, thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated.
I've strongly considered dropping the Autarch for an Avatar, however it leaves a serious dent in the points balance. I think the Wraithlord is the most obvious candidate to drop to make up the difference, however I'm quite fond of the good old Wraithlord, and it's solid in its own right in the codex.
Totally dropped the ball on the Dire Avenger Exarch powers. Perhaps change one two defensive stance and give the Exarch dual catapults so they can blast away both in range and melee? I'm sure I can find the points in the list.
Should have made it explicit, but yeah the Fire Dragons will go in the Falcon. Pulse Laser should come default on the Falcon, I cheaped out a bit with the scatter laser. Open to ideas on the Exarch power (if any Exarch at all). Firepike looks beautiful though, shame to leave it out.
Vypers are intended to be a kind of free-floating capacity in the list, compared to the Serpents/Falcon which are transporting people around. Backfield roles entirely viable in this context.
Could definitely consider picking up Sunstorm for the Farseer Skyrunner, both for the speed and obsec shenanigans. Admittedly I'm not well across stratagems in general. I am aware this needs to improve to be competitive in 9th.
As for Craftworld rules and Warlord traits, Seer of Shifting Vectors seems a safe bet. Guide and Doom for psyker abilities (straight outta 3rd edition there). For the Craftworld, perhaps Hail of Doom and Mobile Fighters (either that or Superior Shurikens).
Thanks again for the feedback.

If you end up going with Hail of Doom or Superior Shurikens you may want to swap out some of the Bright Lances / Star Cannons to Shuriken Cannons to make the most of it, that may save you some points as well.
For Dire Avengers they can shoot and take an action, a solid elite choice if you intend on taking secondaries that require you to make an action.
For the Fire Dragon the two Exarch powers that spring to mind are the one that auto-wounds at 9" or less, and the other that deals additional damage. If you plan on using the Falcon like a drop pod then it and the Fire Dragons will wind up 9.01" inches away on the 1st turn so you won't be able to make use of the first power.
I'm also a fan of the Wraithlord so I think I would leave him in. I think you could get by using the Avatar vice the Autarch but you'll need to find a way to shave off points elsewhere.

Looks pretty solid, fire dragons and dire avengers will be putting in a lot of heavy lifting.
With the lone vypers, they're probably the best bright lance platforms in the entire book (cheap, often require overkill to get rid of them, fast and with a threatening weapon), so the starcannons might be better off elsewhere if models allow, although having some starcannons in the list will definitely help with things like custodes.

Thanks again for the feedback, I've put some additional thought into it, and come up with the following that should clock in at 1998 points.
Battalion Detachment:
Warlord Trait: Falcon's Swiftness
Craftworld Traits: Hail of Doom and Mobile Fighters
HQ (Warlord): Autarch with Star Glaive, Fusion Gun, Faolchu's Wing (relic)
HQ: Farseer Skyrunner with Singing Spear, Sunstorm (relic)
Elite: 10 Dire Avengers, Exarch with Defensive Stance, Dual Avenger Catapult
Dedicated Transport: Wave Serpent with Twin Shuriken Catapult, Twin Starcannon
Elite: 10 Dire Avengers, Exarch with Stand Firm, Avenging Blade (relic)/Shuriken Pistol
Dedicated Transport: Wave Serpent with Twin Shuriken Catapult, Twin Starcannon
Elite: 6 Fire Dragons, Exarch with Blazing Fury, Firepike
Elite: Wraithlord with Ghostglaive, 2 Shuriken Catapults, 2 Starcannons
Troops: 5 Rangers, Gloomfield
Troops: 5 Rangers, Gloomfield
Troops: 10 Guardian Defenders, Bright Lance Platform
Dedicated Transport: Wave Serpent with Twin Shuriken Catapult, Twin Bright Lance
Fast Attack: Vyper with Twin Shuriken Catapult, Bright Lance
Fast Attack: Vyper with Twin Shuriken Catapult, Bright Lance
Flyer: Crimson Hunter Exarch, 2 Bright Lances, Swooping Evasion
Heavy Support: Falcon, Twin Shuriken Catapult, Scatter Laser, Spirit Stones
It's lost a Vyper which is a shame, but I feel on the balance of things that it's looking stronger as a whole. Hopefully I'll be able to put it to the test soon.

Unfortunately the leak I saw was in Spanish, so it could go either way, but if he fits in a Supreme Command Detachment that would be very awesome. If he doesn't, we should all buy eggs and throw them at the GW building.

Oh I was thinking he was an HQ instead of a Lord of war. I won't be picking up my codex till tomorrow so I guess we'll find out hah!

Sadly the picture was wrong, he's still an HQ, which is too bad. It would have been nice if he went in a Supreme Command.
