It's unclear to me whether the 6 mortal wounds cap is specific to only the "roll off" part of the spell or includes the initial d3 mortal wounds. Thank you.

Well it says "Repeat this roll off process until either that enemy unit has suffered 6 mortal wounds..."

If the enemy unit take 3 on the D3 and you win or draw 3 rolls, that would be the enemy suffering 6 mortal wounds.

Yeah, I'd say it's 6 me total, from the initial plus the roll off
