Subject: Shooting through your own units?

I know you can't shoot past enemy units to what's behind them. But can you shoot past your own units?
I just had 2 squads of Necron Warriors, 1 behind the other, trying to target the same daemon unit, and this question came up.
The closest we found to an answer was about unit density... Help!
Also, does size matter?
Thanks in advance.

How do you "know" that? As long as you can see (draw line of sight to) a unit you can, bar look out sir! Or similar rules, shoot it

You still need true line of sight, but otherwise they have no effect.
So if your unit physically blocks visibility to your target (mostly the case with tanks), then you can't shoot. If they don't, then you can shoot with no penalty.

If both units are Necron Warriors, and they're bunched together, is that still true LOS?
Same with enemy units the same size behind each other. Is that still true LOS?

LOS rules mean if any bit of a model can see a bit of the enemy model it can “see it”. It’s practically impossible for an infantry unit in front of another to completely block LOS.

Yes, you always use true LoS. If any part of your model can physically see any part of their model you have LoS
Even if that's your ankle looking through the legs of the guys in front can see the top knot of the enemy behind, yup you have LoS

You can see between the road wheels and/or under the belly.
The treads may be touching the table but the belly isn't.

you cant actually see through it long ways. its too low to the ground
Horrible design in real life having such low clearance, but works well in this game.

A model can draw LoS from its base to the base of another model, or from its ankle or leg, so it is possible to "see" under a Rhino hull to another model (if the ground is flat). The longstanding fluff justification (since... 5th edition? Is that when they introduced true LoS?) is that the actual units represented by the models are more dynamic and can lie down and stuff.
