I just got the age of Sigmar Dominion box, and I have decided I want the Stormcast Eternals to feel like "my dudes," so I want to make a custom Storm host for them.

However, I am not sure where to start. With space marines chapters, which were my previous attempt at a custom army, I understood I should figure out what the planet they live is like, where they land on the "Emporer's divinity" issue, who they are a successor to, how they recruit, etc. However, I am not sure what the Stormcast Eternal equivalents to those questions are.

Any tips?

If it helps, I thought I would pick up some of the dragon rider units (not sure how that would affect the lore of a chapter) after I finish painting up the dominion box. Also, my favorite part of the Stormcast lore is the "we want to cling to being human but may lose our memories trying to defend that which we care about" thing, so I want to emphasize that.

Thank you for any tips you got!

Edit: Okay, I should probably include the core of an idea I have.

I also, at some point, want to run a cities of Sigmar army, and I think it would be really fun to tie the two of them together. I haven't gotten into whether this is possible in the rules, but my idea with the cities of Sigmar army is that it would have a bit of everything, dwarves, elves, humans, etc. The concept is that the city is populated by people from different cultures who had nowhere else to go (refugees from fallen cities, outcasts, etc.). The people of it have a strong sense of camaraderie and are always willing to offer a helping hand to other cities that need their aid. I also want the city to move around since I know some of them can do that, but I am unsure which realm it should be wandering. Not tied to the refugee thing, willing to change it if it doesn't fit the lore, but I really like the idea that all the races are working together.

I know that the storm casts that helped found the city should probably have been the ones to cause that culture, but I don't have any ideas for what about them did it.

Have you read the lore from the Core Rulebook and SCE battletome? That would be the baseline. The next thing for any AoS army would be which realm they are based in (which does not need to be the realm they are from; obviously all SCE are from Azyr but their main base of operations may be in another realm or they could be spread across multiple).

For tie-in with Cities you'll want to run the Stormkeep option for SCE, then the city would be one which has grown up around their Stormkeep (this is very common).

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

I've read the lore in the core rulebook, I haven't gotten the sce battletome yet, I want to see if I enjoy painting them before getting any more.

Actually rereading it, I should put the ideas I have in the original post. In particular I am not sure which realm would fit my idea best.

edit: updated the op with the rough ideas I have.

The refugee concept works very well, as most of the realms are overrun by Chaos and peoples still resisting that corruption flock to any safeholds they can find.

The migrating city aspect meshes best with Ghur or Chamon, but could easily be in any realm. That said Azyr or Hysh wouldn't work as well for what you have in mind.

I would definitely read the SCE battletome before deciding on anything, as that is a great resource for lore and inspiration.
