Welcome, it has been a while since I had a P&M blog!
Didn't fancy posting on the end of the blog I started when I was about 16, so I thought I would perhaps reinvent myself in a more mature and levelled fashion.
In short, I have barely done any hobby really since the first lockdown, when I rescued a sizeable Deathwatch force from the depths of eBay with the intention of revamping and redoing them. Just over 2 years later, not a lot has changed and I really just don't feel like painting black at the moment. They will be used in my first game for nearly 2 years on Thursday so I will try and remember to take some pictures and post them here along with a bit of narrative stuff!
So what am I working on at the minute? Well as the poor pun in the title might suggest - Custodes!
After attending the WHW 25th anniversary back at the beginning of March (side note - absolutely wonderful little event, hats off to
GW for the superb organisation and amazing vibe that was just there throughout the whole afternoon!) my friend and I got inspired to enter the Doubles tournament being held there at the end of June. Living 10 minutes walk from WHW is something I have not taken nearly enough advantage of while at university, so I figured it was high time I played a weekend event there.
My mate is a longtime Guard player and he made that quite clear that was what he wanted to run if we played, so it got me to thinking - what would look cool with Guard on the table?
I've always enjoyed the fluff of the Custodes and the models are damn beautiful, so I decided to go with them although with one stipulation - no way would I paint them all gold!
As mentioned above I had fell out of love painting black and gold wasn't an option I relished, so I decided to go for a Solar Watch light bone scheme. I had found a scheme that uses contrast paints (a new thing for me!) by Warhipster on Youtube and so decided to throw myself in at the deep end and get hobbying!
Here are the results currently:
The bone armour hasn't come out exactly as the tutorial I was following - in a way I like them, but it would be good to get some thoughts on this. I am wondering whether it is a bit too sloppy for Custodes?
Here is the original Youtube tutorial:

They are a Grey Seer spray with a 4:1 mix of Contrast Medium and Skeleton Horde over the top, then a recess wash of Aggaros Dunes!
Let me know what you think!
