Howdy people,
Crawled out from under my craftworld and noticed that Shroud Runners have the 60mm round flying bases. Which seems fine on the model then, to my horror, I noticed the Shinning Spears are now packing the same size.... Is this a recent thing? Or been here for a while and I literally didn't notice. I don't go the tournaments and I'm the only local eldar player. My excuse is in the making.
Questions
1. Eldar players have you upgraded your Shinning Spears to the new size or just quietly ignoring it? Or not noticing it
2. Is this a buff or a deficit to Shinning Spears?
cheers all

The are no base size rules in 40k, despite what Reddit et al seem to think...

Spears got upgraded to 60 mm with the new models.
I replaced my models with the new ones (the old ones just looked really bad in comparison).
It's both a buff and a nerf: it helps them block off areas for your opponent, but it also makes them harder to hide behind terrain.

With a few exceptions models in my collection use the bases/base sizes they came with when purchased.
Those exceptions are:
*Genesteelers - these all got rebased to 32m(?) Ages ago. They were top heavy & their arms kept tangling up. This solved those issues.
*Dreadnoughts - several were purchased before the kit included the big round base. Like the steelers they kept tipping over. This was initially solved by putting them on the largest square base of the time. Later, when you could bitz order the big round base with the uneven pavement they were all upgraded to that.
*Juggernauts & Fleshhounds - I have models of every vintage of these guys. Theyve come on all sorts of bsses.... A few years back I standardized them.
*the SoB Hospitlar - I left off the casualty figure & put her on a normal size base. I don't think anyone's ever noticed, let alone cared.
*GSC Ridgerunner & Rockgrinder - I'm not putting one armies stable vehicles on pointless bases & not others. If rhinos & Leman Russ don't need bases? Then neither does a Rock grinder.
This thinking will extend to modern Ork buggies should I ever build any.
*Defilers & Triarch Stalkers - I did add large bases to these guys. It solved all debates concerning melee vs posing.

The Shining Spears and Shroud Runners have wings mid-way along the bike, which the other recently designs of Eldar jetbikes don't.
That might be the reason for the bigger bases.
