So GW just posted some information about events:

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2022/06/10/immerse-yourself-in-four-days-of-pure-narrative-warhammer-at-the-us-open-grand-finale/

Of coure, the part that interests me most is the Grand Narrative. This thing sounds pretty cool- mission briefings are in-character, all the games are linked to advance a single narrative AND there may be overlapping Aeronautica and Titanicus sessions that take the narrative to another level.

The only way I'll ever get to go to an event like this would be if one came to Toronto, or if I win my way there by playing in the store... But it's cool to hear about. I know there are a lot of people on Dakka who wish that 40k was more of a tactical/ simulation war game, and obviously, this wouldn't be for you. But I feel like it's a huge step in the right direction- GW has done a ton of work to support narrative play through printed resources... But so far, they haven't been able to provide a lot of event support to promote it as a truly viable alternative to Matched.

Who knows; maybe if these events are popular and become more common, it will normalize Crusade to the point where those of you who live in places the local meta won't let anyone play anything except 2k matched will finally start to see more options.

My biggest question is: can you bring an existing Crusade army or do you have to start from scratch with all your units losing everything they learned in previous battles?

Yeah, I'm surprised that the post doesn't mention that.

I know my store guy got called down to Dallas for a week, so my guess is they're talking about the return of organized play- there was an article about that not too long ago as well.

He should be back in the shop this week I think, so I might get some details. I think the Organized Play article mentioned narrative as well... So they might do something like the old RPGA used to do with Living City: experience and requisitions earned during in store games are "validated" by the organizer so that they can be used in other events that are a part of the network.

I'd wager you start from scratch. Unless you want to face THAT GUY who just happens to have rolled the best possible upgrade on every unit with max experience...

Sucks for those of us who don't play in a GW store because of location, 3rd party models, or whatever. I guess they have to restart. Then again, I suppose they couldn't play in official GW events anyways.

I mean, you can pick the upgrades in Crusade anyways...

...but yeah, one of my biggest critiques of Crusade is having to restart at the beginning of every campaign. Always feels a bit silly playing Czumneth Ereshkigal VII, Definitely Not The Same As Czumneth I-VI, Despite Having The Same Narrative and Backstory.

Most 28mm name-plate production companies run out of characters before I can finish adding all that in.

Considering i have free unlimited air travel this is something I would actually be interested in. Not sure I want to deal with a 40k army while I'm in the jump seat, or letting a ramper toss it into cargo hold though.

Currently however my army is probably illegal with the current force orgs due to the limit on flyers, veterans not being troops, and my heavily converted forces. I do like kill team and aeronautica however.

Oh well, despite my dislike of the current rules and balance, this IS a positive.

I would like to see more details.

Aight its $279 a night lol nvm.

I've seen the ones run at Warhammer World and they just look phenomenal. Definitely something to get to if you can.

Yeah... They need to build a warhammer world in Toronto.

That would be RAD, would give me an actual reason to go to a GW store/event.

I know the dude who runs the narrative thing at LVO always does a killer job.
