Drone without a Controller




This is a meme list that i think is pretty fun to run as you get 10 hammerhead level railgun shots. They pretty much all hit on 3+ due to marker lights with the Tau sept reroll. For anything not being hit by the railguns i still have 30 pulse rifles a bunch of tau flamers and a few burst cannons and of course gun drones.

I was just looking into the Tidewall Gunrigs. A bit squishy compared to other vehicles at T6 Sv4+, but it's a nice gun and doesn't take up HS slots. Seems like there's a risk of having to deploy them in some awkward back corner due to terrain, though.

Also, it looks like they can't carry a Strike Team with any drones. It can transport 10 infantry, but drones aren't infantry and a Strike Team with drones is over 10 models anyway. Who were you planning to be onboard the Gunrigs to let them move and shoot normally?

I was thinking of a list along these lines where all the squishy infantry is onboard Gunrigs, but then I'm not sure what to do about markerlights. Even if you put a Pathfinder Team on a Gunrig, they can't take the markerlights action while embarked. Maybe a character with Ohr'tu's Lantern, except I think then all the markerlights have to target the same unit.

Anyway, it's a fun idea and I do love Tau railguns. Have you played this list or one like it, and if so how did it go?

Do you not use the normal terrain and fortification deployment rules? Without some kind of house rule to fix the deployment issues and/or tables with way too little terrain this list just isn't viable. Half your railguns are going to be dead weight stuck in a back corner for most of the game.

Yea this is a meme kinda list so we dont normally play the 3" exclusion for setting up.
But i do think the tau shield wall is viable because its so thin and long. Not very thick at all and the gunrig is a circular platform about the size of a hammerhead so not impossible to bring 1 every game. Maybe 2. But definately not all 3 effectively unless it can go ito reserves because tau buildings have an action to move 8" fly.

In that case you should be fine. Their stats are fine, the only problem with them is that the ability to remove terrain to place them only happens if the model can't be placed at all and you can be forced to deploy them in an irrelevant spot if it's possible for them to fit there. If you house rule away the deployment restrictions and can reliably put them in a useful location you have a 125 point Devilfish that also carries a legitimate tank weapon.

It can not. Fortifications are explicitly banned from ever being placed into reserves.
