It's been a few months since the last video we did about the 30k leaks, now that 2.0 and the pdf's are out we discuss 2.0, Cleary's has had some games with his night lords vs blood angels. It's a bit on the long side, we get into reactions, the pdf's, 2.0 itself and thoughts on the release.

I've got my plastic spartan about 1/3 painted so far, I still have about 60 marines to re-base. Still no intent to play 2.0 myself but stoked to play 1.0, offering that as an option to people locally who perhaps want to wait to see if 2.0 and the pdf's get faq'd. The outer circle released the first of a 2 part video where he attempts to fix the legacy pdf's, personally think while that's a valiant effort, I just don't see the point. This is a new car with a lot of problem, basically. Wound allocation needs a faq, overwatch reaction really needs a faq too. We get into specifically why that is with examples but to put it simply overwatch is telling you a different method than the core rules for declaring/doing charges.

Overwatch the reaction is basically at odds with the charge sequence, where the sequence is procedural but the overwatch reaction seems to basically be the opposite. Reactions have been telegraphed/cynical, less of a problem in the games cleary has had because both armies tended to be comprised of smaller elite units with some limited vehicle support (BA vs Night Lords), meaning neither side had like big blobs of power armour or 10 man tyrant siege terminators reacting by returning fire with a bazillion missiles. Neither side's list have been completed specifically for 2.0, but as they both modify their armies, the reactions are likely going to get even more telegraphed/cynical in some ways. Both are still learning the updated rules for their factions so neither side is throwing out a killer list, just yet in terms of where the "meta" has gone in 2.0.

The negative reactions to the pdf's sorta overshadowed that some units didn't get totally boned, but there has been some consensus, even among the still quite enthused/hyped, that they messed up assault bike, stormlord ect, some stuff is an obvious mistake vs a poor design decision. Some aspects of the attack bike we'd expect to see changed but it was the wound and attack stats that seemingly has everyone confused. I was aware of the -1 strength drop across the board for bikes, but hadn't noticed the loss of bulky, which just seems weird to me, especially for outnumbered.

Template weapons being pretty badly nerfed on a lot units has been a big kick in the gut to a lot of player's prized tanks or artillery. The legacy pdf's don't bode well for auxillia or mechanicum, or future pdf's really. To my mind the pdf's and also the larger change to a lot of tanks and point costs, it all seems to scream buy a kratos already. And I think that's sorta the overall vibe, we're going to cycle through cynically what's bad and good for marketing reasons. Great, another reason to not play 2.0.

One phenomenon we've noticed is a lot of people posting their 2.0 games, there's like almost no terrain. A lot of the 40k players have seemingly taken some poor habits with them on their forays into 30k, it's one area that its been nice to see some of the "influencers" embrace 30k, at least their tables are nice and full of purdy terrain, especially of the los blocking variety.

I'm still incredibly happy to have a plastic spartan, looking forward to possibly a plastic sicaran, the new plastic predator looks cool too. So no gloom and doom here, it all works for either edition.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.
