Uh, hello!
So, I wrote up a Codex supplement for the Death Guard. Its somewhere between an Army of Renown and a Supplement. The core of the idea is an exploration around the idea that the DeathGuard retained more of the old legion structure than basically all of the Space Marine Legions. Thus, the units available to them should be largely align with what's found in Horus Heresy.
Additionally, i wanted to explore some of the other themes of the Deathguard that had laid fallow or were under developed, in particular:
* Deadly Pathogens. These are really cool, but very limited in what you can do with them, they are very minor upgrades to characters only and expensive to boot. It would be cool to have them a more integral part of the army and broadly available.
* Focus on mass Heavy infantry. In Lore the Deathguard are very focused on massive blocks of Legionnaires, but the current codex doesn't really support this well as a Play style.
* Limit on vehicles, more old Legion vehicles. I love the Daemon engines, but I also love Predators and Land raiders. I want to keep the focus of the book these older vehicles, though in limited numbers. I also wanted to make sure these kept the
DG flavour, by replacing a lot of the standard weapons with their Plague weapon equivalents.
* Mantles of Corruption. These are mentioned in the 8th and 9th ed Codexes, but we only get two of them, Contagion and Virulence. I thought it would be cool for them to be upgrades for the Foetid Veiron characters to upgrade them to Lord of the Deathguard, like the Chapter Command upgrades in Codex Space Marines.
* Plague and Rad weapons. The
DG were notorious for using censured weaponry, especially post heresy. So I wanted to reintroduce these in the form of the Cherenkov Rad weapons and wider access to plague weapons across the board.
I been lucky enough to work with Nicky Grillet on the Project, who is an ex
GW concept artist. She has provided a lot of the art, and, unsurprisingly for a concept artist, helped with a lot of the unit concepts. I have also been making use of Unit Crunch to help balance units, though I'll be honest, I am very confident there is still some really out of whack stuff in there...
The status of the project is that I am basically done with the set of units, and am looking to refine and tweak them. From here I want to add lots of art, mini show cases, narrative stuff etc, but the the rules are basically complete, sans any whopping balance issues I need to address.
I would love any feedback, this is absolutely a passion project that I am enjoying putting together, but I am much more of a hobbist than tournament player, so please advise if anything looks really wonky.
I can't have a link in my first post, but there is a link to the Codex in my profile.
