Anyone else noticed that this line about the Emperor being the Master of Mankind by the will of the gods has been taken out of the classic introduction in the newer products? What's up with that?

The Emperor was an atheist.

Can you be a bit more specific? Do you mean the intro bit about "In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium"?

This is from the 8th edition. The whole 'will of the gods' tied in nicely with how the chaos gods won the Heresy, causing the Imperium to be their playground (war, disease, excess, and hypocrisy).

There's nothing in there about the "will" of the Dark Gods.
Its also a really low quality picture that I can barely read.

It does say will of the gods though. And what gods do we know of in 40k? Chaos ones!

I don’t really think this bit of text has any fluff/lore significance, it’s a marketing bit of bumph. The new one is no better. It’s not stuff the people of the setting would know. It’s just there to sell the setting as grim and dark.

Tied nicely in with the background, I thought, both the triumph of lunatic theists and the kind of universe it is. Plus, yes, what with the Chaos Gods winning the Heresy it tied in nicely with the central Horus Heresy/Long War theme.

Or not winning. Maybe this was part of his part aiming to become god himself. Heresy itself was more or less his plans. Some legions he planned to be loals went traitor and vice versa, minor details. Big thing was marines started killing each other as planned

I mean, he's not going to beat the Chaos Gods at their own game if they don't think they're winning, and once they're winning they'll fall about making sure they're the one that won.
