Esp considering their status as both warlke and comedic race, I have to ask after watching the MTV TV show Jackass and esp rewatching the Austin Powers trilogy.

Esp since the 3rd movie had a joke related to MUshrooms and Austin thought the Japanese CEO was asking hm to eat !h@t well in fact he was referring to Shitake Mushrooms!

Any in-universe reason why? I mean even out of universe censorship can't be a reason considering the Space Marines game had common British cuss words used by humans at a couple of points.

Because it isn't MTV? Or Innuendo Spy: Jokes on Repeat?

Also, orks don't, so there really isn't any reason they'd 'use the F word.'

It is largely out of universe reasons, mostly that its a pretty petty fight to have with shops/parents/'concerned citizens' groups when there's all that grimdark to deal with.

Space Marines would like to have a world with you. Also some of the other rated M games i have vulgar language as do Black Library novels.

None of the Orks use cuss words despite humans throwing it around in Space Marines game.

\shrug. Video games have their own set of expectations and audience quirks.

There isn't any real reason for modern slang in the game.

I was going to post exactly this. Zog is pretty much a direct translation to the F Word.

There are plenty of current cultures that speak English but would use other slang over the F Word. You ever play Halo 1 and wonder why Cortana tells Spark to sod off instead of F off? It's because she was originally written to be British.

Why is it needed? I'm not going to pretend that I don't curse and swear (in fact I do it a bit too much but hey ho that's what working in a pub gets you) but it doesn't add anything to throw them in all the time.
Having curses and swears that work within the setting such as "Guilliman's oath!" or "Zog off!" are much better because you can get a much better character from it.

Cuss words are very different between languages and revolve around different "topics" so to say. English swearing is about sex mostly while german swearing is much more about... Crap. And swedish apparently has a lot of cuss words with religious context (I read a linguistic book about that topic, but it's been a while )

So, as others have said, with an asexual mushroom species the f word is out, but I'd guess they have a lot to say about what's going on in the drops.

maybe because making things "edgy" by liberally sprinkling the f word everywhere isn't a sign of good writing?

As a Warhammer Dad I'm thankful for that. Because if the ork's were shouting F all the time than a certain Warhammer Mom would make me pack the whole thing up into storage for another 20 years.

They use the words Grot, Squig, and sometimes Git as insults. They also have the work Zog which might have the same meaning as gak. Zog-brain is a common term for Orks who are dimwitted (or too smart for their own good).

I feel like I am giving this waaaay too much thought, but many Human/Modern/English curse words don't reference concepts Orks even care about.

Orks have no gender and don't reproduce sexually, so every sex-related curse word drops out from their lexicon. Not only does this drop out curse words directly related to reproduction, it also drops out curse words related to sexual proclivity, sexual deviance, sexual organs, illegitimate offspring, etc. "Zog" is certainly equivalent in meaning, but almost definitely different in original intention (heck, it may have an in-universe etymology of wandering off to die and drop spores, which would make it reproductively-related).

Second, Orks have a different relationship to dung than humans do. The 'drops', where orks go to defecate, is a communal space--and it's a primary source of squigs, for their food sources. In addition, orks associate strong smells with 'strong spirits' (much as we originally associated breath with soul), so they make dung effigies of their gods and respect bad-smelling, flatulent beasts like boars and bulls. If breath=spirit, then really strong, dominating smells=strong spirit (just like louder noises=stronger weapons). So fecal-related curse words don't make as much sense, as feces aren't as taboo to orks as humans.

Then there's all the racial/ethnic slurs. These probably make little to no sense to orks, and their own terms for their own societal divisions (which are often also biological) are used as curses. "Grots", "runts", and "snots" all are curse words (and proper nouns) to them. Deriding someone as 'squig-brained' is a curse. Then the actual Klan names are both labels and hurtful insults. While someone might be a Deathskull, they could also be as likely to nick your gear as a Deathskull. Someone could be as untrustworthy as a Blood Axe.

So, while there's a clear 'out of universe' reason for Orks not cursing like sailors, 'in universe', many of the curses we would use don't make a lot of sense for Orks anyway. I mean, they clearly pick up Low Gothic pretty quickly, but they don't seem to use many of the words that don't psychologically make sense to Orks (they seem unable to grasp that human children are proto-adults and not just weedy, useless, whiny grots that humans are inexplicably soft on, rather than giving them a proper kickin').
