I was noticing this morning that you can use Gift of the Phalanx to give a squad sargeant a master crafted weapon. I was wondering if there were any good/cheeky uses for this, or if it's just not worth it? I know in the 6 cp meta its probably not something you want to do, but we usually play Tempest of War so we still have 12 cp to play with.
So the Master Crafted weapon you get to pick one weapon and increase the damage by 1. So it may as well be a good weapon. Here's what I kinda was thinking.
Centurions: lol? Mastercraft the hurricaine bolter for 12 damage 2 shots from your sarge? Pity that there is no base AP. Still kind of hilarious. The highest number of shots weapon that I could find.
Eliminators: A little bit of extra bite if you are character hunting with bolt sniper rifles, or you could just have a dam4 lasfusil that hits on a 2+.
Suppressors: a 3 shot autocannon that does flat damage 3 is pretty spicy. A decent mix of high-power shots and number of shots.
Inceptors: Similar. On the surface this is just worse than the Suppressors, but with Doctrines thrown in you're probably going to get better AP most of the time with the Inceptor Assault Bolter. And these guys are a bit more likely to show up in lists than suppressors. Or you could go with plasma and overcharge for damage3 or not overcharge and still be at damage2. Would be great if it worked on both of their guns, sadly sarge will be stuck with one super gun and one regular one.
Hellblasters: Basically the same schtick as plasma inceptors. The 3-shot assault variant can be damage2 all the time or damage3 on the overcharge.
Eradicators: Might be overkill? With total obliteration could put a heavy melta rifle to a very fun damage d6+3 or d6+5 at half range.
What do you guys think? Is this more trouble than its worth? Are there any candidates that it is kind of attractive on?
