I recently purchased the new plastic Leviathan Dreadnaught and after looking over the rules and wargear and I am having trouble deciding on the best load out between two.

Both take the three missiles and the two twin linked volkite calivers.

In the first I take a Cyclonic melta lance (18" Heavy D6 S9 AP-4 Dam6 Blast and melta rules) and one of the melee weapons, The claw has AP-3 Dam3 and +1 attack the drill has AP-4 Dam2D3 and Dam6 to vehicles, both of which comes with a meltagun. This loadout would cost me two grenade launchers as well.

The other takes a Storm cannon (36" Heavy 8 S7 AP-1 Dam2) and the Grav-flux bombard (24" Heavy 2D3 S8 AP-3 Dam2 Blast and grav rules)

Thoughts on the two. Do you think a different loadout is better?

Magnets are your friends.

Then you can mix/match/swap & find out wich you prefer.

Me? I like shooting things. My current one has duel melta-cyclones (forget the proper name).

I'd wait for GW to do updated rules with the plastic kit personally. As of now, they're a bit expensive.

If you're trying to do shooting, you want something that buffs it. Standard Salamanders and Imperial/Crimson Fists do that just fine. If you want melee you want to get there ASAP, so Black Templars or Blood Angels or White Scars.

My question is, what Chapter Tactics are you using?

I have not run a leviathan. From what I can tell it is exspensive and lacks the core keyword. Also, you loose one CP!

That beeing said there are some upsides. 2+ and armour of contempt. The 5++ will rarly come up.

Next is what funtion does it form? Having no melee weapons when engaged is horrible. But on the other hand if it is a gun platform why not go all in?

Storm cannon is D2. It works like a volkite contenptor impression - except the mortal wounds lacking. Stil 8x2 shots is 16 shots! Combine with chest volkites.

The melta Lance is 1D6 shots. As unreliable as the plasma redemtor dread. But very dangerush. Probably combines with a melee weapon. Perhaps also combine with the heavy flamer.

The grav bombard looks like fun. But it has blast, meaning you can not use it in melee. Meaning you can not shoot your way out of melee. 3 hunter killer missiles seems good in devestator doctrine turn 1. Opponents will have to duck and hide.

It is hard to find synergies with the dreadnought. But the Techmarine can do it.

Magnets are my friend, but GW designs are not and neither are drills. The way they are built I can only see one good spot in each arm to magnetize and you only get two of those in each box and the weapon upgrades don't come with extras so to get more will require purchasing a second model and money is a factor right now. That being said having two super meltas does sound fun...

I have a successor chapter, ultramarines, who I primarily use the Warded and Whirlwind of Rage. The guys at the casual games won't care if I run them as a different chapter but those at tournaments I can see having an issue.

I do like the sound of that duel storm cannon idea...

Myself i like melta and grav but then again facing dg constantly might colour my opinion. Still one melee weapon. Blood angel dread without melee weapon feels weird.

Walking artillery.
I like to keep the enemy at arm's length.
This behemoth looks really great. It can be the centerpiece of every SM army.
