I already knew of Warhammer since I was a child before getting it into this year because I have relatives from the UK who play the game.

Background info, I am the children of recent immigrants on both end and as you already guessed one side of the family comes from the UK. The other sides are Portuguese from Libson (with extended famil all across Portugal).

So as typical for a Euro I grew up with soccer since before I even could crawl. I always wondered why those green toys my relatives had when they visited me or I visited London would be wearing club colors....... tHEY REMINDED ME OF So its only natural when I learned that Orks are a parody of Football Hooligans from lowerclass London that my choice in faction was decided!!!!!!!!!

Quite wondering if anyone else also chose Orks as Footy followers?

LMFAO all the Football references is a treat as someone who still follows the Premiere League and I still often LOL when I read lore!

I play them because they are fun to play.

I have a small collection of Orks because there's a certain je ne sais quoi about them. They're brutal warmongers, yet hilarious. There's Squigs... Everyone would have one as a pet if they could. Squigs are angry and menacing, yet adorable. I suppose if I had to sum it up... Orks, in a sense, personify fun, albeit very brutal and murderous.

The football (soccer) thing is completely lost on me. Perhaps because I'm American.

Most recent players will not know the RT-era origins of the 40k Orks.
The hooligan theme goes over most people's heads when they hear it, and most of it has been pulled from the current lore anyway.

I don't play Orks. I play Grots.
But in order to do so I must use the ork codex, access the ork section of the FW book, and buy products from the GW/FW "Ork" ranges.
And in Crusade (by the rules!) I have to lead the army with an ork character as both grot characters a naned....

So I play "Orks" only as a technicality.....

Even were I to make a "proper" Ork army (using Orks) I'd never do so because of Soccer.
I'd do so because the models, units, & game play they offer interest me.
