Hello everyone. We are Faceless Publishing, a small Canadian tabletop game and fiction publisher. Today is a very exciting day for us, as we announce the first project under our Wargames Resurrectionist label. The goal of Wargames Resurrectionist is to preserve out-of-print tabletop wargames and miniature lines, and make them available once again. After purchasing or licensing the rights to a game, 3d and conventional scanning are used to create a digital archive from the existing material. The digital copies of these games and miniatures will then be made available for purchase through online distribution. Rules and supporting materials will be sold as PDF documents, and miniatures will be available as STLs. 3d printed miniatures will also be available, for those without access to a 3d printer. In addition to game components, we also aim to speak with the sculptors, writers, and creators involved with each game wherever possible, in order to preserve as much of the background behind them as we can.

We are very excited to announce we have signed a license with Onyx Path Publishing to resurrect Trinity: Battleground!

For those unfamiliar with it, Trinity: Battleground was released in 1998 by White Wolf Publishing. It was the only wargame ever based on the Storytelling RPG rules system. The game is set in the Trinity universe (created by White Wolf and now owned by Onyx Path Publishing), and features psionically empowered heroes known as Psions battling twisted, superhuman mutants called Aberrants.

A skirmish level game, Trinity: Battleground contained rules for players to create their own customized Psions and Aberrants, choosing from a variety of psionic powers, mutations, and equipment. Players of the Trinity RPG would even be able to convert their characters into the game, allowing them to participate in larger-scale battles.

Sadly, even with such interesting and flexible rules, and miniatures sculpted by the legendary Bob Naismith, the game was not the success its creators hoped. It only lasted a year, and plans for future releases never materialized.

As a kind gesture, White Wolf released a free PDF containing the material that was currently being worked on for the game, which is still freely available from Onyx Path. Since then, Trinity: Battleground has stayed relatively unknown except to dedicated fans for nearly 25 years.

This will not be a Kickstarter. We are currently in the process of scanning the miniatures and creating print-ready .STL files. The game will be released once those are ready. We are excited to make this lost game available again after so long, and we are very thankful to Onyx Path for the opportunity. Keep an eye on this space and our website for more news as we get closer to bringing this game back to life!

Glad to hear you think our project is interesting. I doubt that Warmachine will go completely out of production anytime soon, but in the future? Who knows?

Thank you! We are very excited to be working with Onyx Path on this project, and have plans to expand the range with more out-of-print lines as our business grows.

Thank you! There are so many interesting miniature lines and out-of-print games, and we decided something should be done about it! We will be posting updates here, on our website, and on social media as the project progresses.

I got a message from these guys a couple of months ago asking me to send them a few Trinity:Battleground miniatures I had (which were either never released or released in very limited quantities depending on who you ask). I thought it was suss and ignored it at the time.....

I tried contacting Onyx Path following your message and they never replied to me.

Don't forget to mention it on sites like rpg.net, the new edition of the Trinity RPG got a good few roleplayers nostalgic for Trinity: Battleground again.

That's surprising, I figured they would have responded. Thank you for the advice, we will certainly reach out to the rpg.net crowd.

Great to hear that the game will be coming back.
I have two starter sets and a few of the blister packs that were released.
Will you be selling the miniatures for those who dont have 3D printers?

We're happy to see so many people excited for the game's resurrection! The plan is to sell 3d printed miniatures so that people without printers of their own can still complete their collections. However, as a small company with limited space, it will take some time to set that up.

It has been a year since we announced our acquisition of the license to resurrect Trinity: Battleground from Onyx Path Publishing, and an update has been long overdue.

Unfortunately, we have encountered some problems with getting the miniatures for the project scanned, which is the first step in bringing the line back to life. There were issues with the service we were working with to perform the scanning, and we made the decision to move the process in-house. We are currently finalizing the acquisition of the hardware and software, and developing the expertise, to perform this task independently. This capability will not only allow us to complete the resurrection of Trinity: Battleground, but will streamline future projects as well. Stay tuned for more regular updates moving forward, as we start sharing work-in-progress shots and other news.

We appreciate the patience of the Trinity: Battlegrounds fans, and wholeheartedly apologize for these delays. We are determined to take the lessons we've learned from this, and apply them to our future projects as we move forward.

Hello everyone,

We apologize for the long wait, but we are happy to announce that we have completed moving our scanning process in-house and are getting good results. We have shared a preview of our first scanned figure on our website as part of our new Miniature Monday blog series. Please stop by and learn more about the spine-covered monstrosity known as Caul Fein!

Believe me, I would have loved nothing more, but we have nowhere near the funds needed for that kind of project. Maybe in the future Steamforged will be amenable to some kind of agreement to resurrect the legacy models, but only time will tell. For now, we are focusing on one project at a time.

Neat stuff! Are you going to put out that lovely cardstock terrain too? I love the old school paper - the current paper terrain tends to have too much extraneous detail.

Congratz on bringing this lost gem back into action...

I got into this game like a week after it fell off, and ended up selling it back for something else. I really dig the aliens and the concept of building up your army and they all being individuals with their own stories was a great idea. The game was on par with Infinity before Infinity was a baby idea. As a game, it's like using a superhero vs aliens. BUT the superhero can develop and gain more powers as they continue the campaign. It was a great deal at the time. The "Big Monsters" were really cool, as well.

I'm definatly interested.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

You bet! All the cardstock and paper material for the game has been scanned and will be provided as PDFs for players to print out. Because they're digital, you'll be able to cover any size table with terrain if you want to!

Thank you! We are very excited to see this project come to fruition, and are grateful for the enthusiastic response we've received so far. Once we have the game "out in the wild" again, we hope to see players share details about how their own campaigns have progressed.

First time I've seen this game, and I love that you're going to archive it for the future. Seems like a great box of toys for other gaming tho, and cheap, so I think I'm gonna need an original box now.

Trinity: Battleground had a set of unique and very cool miniatures, but the game sadly never drew the attention it deserved. Besides making these games available to people again, a big part of our goal is preserving these games as part of wargaming history, since otherwise they risk being completely forgotten.

It's Miniature Monday once again, and this week we're revealing the first scanned Psion miniature, Hewish, as well as talking about how we'll be making the game available once it releases.
