Hi Everyone,

I returned to the hobby about 6 months ago. Haven’t played anything since 5th edition so theres a lot to catch up on.

In my time I’ve played; guard, orks, blood angels and elder in my time but jumped back in with the Astra Militarum (rebranded for IP protection reasons I believe?)

Now unfortunately, due to moving house I jumped back in with a planetary defence force which has sat gathering dust and I was about to get into it…when my big infantry block got outdated . However, this has nudged me into following another pathway - creating a penal legion detachment. I figure the dregs of the guard wont be given the nice Gucci new knee pads and helmets so having some comparitvley tired looking miniatures wouldnt look to jarring if the army leans into that aesthetic.

So, instead of going with bright orange boiler suits I want to go for a more old fashioned look. I’m going to use a ‘broad arrow’ pattern on the overalls - as inspired by Grommits time in the slammer in The Wrong Trousers. Unfortunately, my painting skills aren’t up to getting the pattern right and consistent so I’m planning on making some custom waterslide decals. While I work out the best way to go about that I’m going to acquire some Ogryns with an Escape Suit look which I think will be a fun project to begin with.

If anyone has created and used any custom waterslide decals then tips would be much appreciated and I’m looking forward to sharing some of my first models with you.
