How did it go?

Any tips on the best units to take to get best benefits of the legion trait?

Looks like Terminators and Abaddon are a mainstay in the lists that have performed the best at tournaments, Venomcrawlers, Cultists, Warp Talons and Legionnaires show up often.

CoB have the best secondary in the CSM Codex and the best sub-faction trait. Along with Emperor's Children, they're probably the strongest sub-faction in the Codex. Against other close combat factions they are really difficult to deal with thanks to always getting to strike.

Their core list doesn't seem too different to most CSM lists. Terminators and Possessed feature heavily. Warp Talons are another good pick and bikes are probably pretty good too. All CSM want at least one unit of Cultists for hanging around your backfield, raising banners, etc. Masters of Possession and Dark Apostles are pretty much auto-includes in CSM lists, as are one of Daemon Princes or Lord Discordants. You probably want Khorne Legionnaires as your Troops to get the most from the sub-faction trait.

I don’t know if I’m being stupid but I’ve looked through some of those army lists and I can’t see Fabius in them, can you run COB without choosing Fabius as a HQ?

In a word? Yes.

That restriction was dropped, and prime test subject became a warlord trait instead of a stratagem.

Speed remains a key - Raptors are great since that extra inch of move plus their access to Auto-Stimulants (being CORE) means you can get a move of between 14" and 19" and still charge.

Wait till you hear about the 8th edition Iyanden lists that ran more Guardians than Wraithguard. Biel-tan being sub-par for Howling Banshees, Fire Dragons and Striking Scorpions... They actually fixed both it seems. How about White Scars being the premiere heavy weapon spam chapter for Space Marines in 7th? How about Catachan jungle fighters that specialise in heavy artillery from 8th? The Silent King's Dynasty having anti-synergy with the Silent King?

I suppose if you wanted to justify it you could say that Fabius has sent a force of his enhanced warriors to support Abbadon blah blah blah.

I wouldn’t do cos I just love Fabius, it I haven’t picked up the new CSM codex and I know they changed the rules for COB from the psychic awakening rules

To be fair he's the easiest named character to justify including since he clones himself from time to time...

The force is probably one of the best melee chaos factions because the Legion trait is amazing - +1S and 1" move was always great but they've added 'fight on death if killed before you attack' too.

Added to the huge stat increase of chainsword-wielding Legion and Raptor squads and its shocking how much damage 'basic guys' can do.

Aren’t warp talons better than raptors? The plus one strength on the lightning claw, re rolls and extra attacks sounds good

Played blind against my brother. He was Creations of Bile, I was melee focussed Saim-Hann eldar.

It did not go well for me!

They seem very strong. Melee units that would normally kill the foe on the charge get killed in turn, while a ranged force is ever so slightly easier to catch due to the extra movement and a strat that allowed them to run and then charge.

Quite hard to play around the fight on death mechanic when the whole army has it and you can't turn it off.

Honestly their legion trait is broken. It's the single strongest buff you could get for melee units IMO

You are aware that artillery is one of the deadliest weapons in jungle? See oh, the entirety of fighting in Southeast Asia or Subsaharan Africa in last 150 years (ever heard of Dien Bien Phu?) And even from lore standpoint this complaint is dumb, there are lots of mentions of Catachan armored and superheavy regiments in lore, artillery is literally nothing compared to this...

They are also more recent examples of use of fast moving artilery pices, to support counter attacks and mechanised thrusts. Used in both woodland and swamp terrain.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.
