If you had a squad of legionaries with Balefire prescience who sit in the back to target your havocs MoT with 4x lascannon and had 15 points left over would you give the legionaries a 1x range weapon like missile launcher or lascannon so they can do something in range combat also or give them a mark like tzeentch so you have the option of casting kein on the havocs if defense is more important than prescience.

I would give them a lascannon, yeah. Might as well at that point. 145 for 4 lascannon havocs, 110 for 5 guys and a tome. I think 255 for 4 lascannons hitting on 2+ is not as good as 270 for 4 lascannons hitting on a 2+ and one more hitting on a 3+.

I frequently run my squads of 5 with a balefire tome (with prescience but usually end up spamming smite) and a missile launcher. they complement lascannon havocs very well. (i run black legion so don't always need the +1 hit from prescience)

Or you could just use a noctilith crown to get the same result as skeins of fate on the havocs but nurgle mark them instead for extra durability (and gain access to grandfather's blessings transhuman strat)

It depends. Does your army need extra heavy weapons? Will the unit be in a position to use it? Most of the time your 5-man Legionnaires are sitting at the back, raising banners, buffing units. They're not usually in a position to shoot because if they are, they'l probably die.

If you give them a Mark you can increase their utility as they get another psychic power they can potentially use if Prescience isn't required.
