In lore have 2 space marine chapters fought together side by side - I model Ultramarines 2nd company but really like the Black Templars combat Patrol Box Set and their individual characters - I would use the impulsor for my UM and build all the figures as BT could I use this in game play - I mostly collect and build/paint figures rather than actual gaming just curious - TIA

Yes all the time, loads of examples of chapter cooperating and fighting together, anytime there’s multiple chapters in a war zone they would fight together.

Here's a chart from Horus Heresy times, all the crowned yellow skull symbols denote chapters who have fought together and are very close to each other. This info is from M30 so more close alliances have surely been formed since but you get some idea to start with

Conversely some alliances have definitely faded.

Iron Hands and Salamanders are not so great friends with the Emperor’s Children these days!

Absolutely.

This example is from the Third War for Armageddon, where elements of over 20 chapters fought alongside each other. The disposition below is a snapshot from the war, other chapters fought at other times (most notably the Black Templars).

Easily. Coalition force or a crusade would be good examples.

You could have a scenario where a chapter has an obligation to provide troops or an honour guard to a city or organisation due to some obscure debt, agreement or alliance. And due to casualties or other commitments they can't provide the full company. They call in some favours with mates in other chapters (particularly successors or other local forces) and they respond with a few squads here or there.

Could also envision a scenario where a particular bad guy of some renown has managed to piss off several sm chapters who make an agreement to put together a combined strike force with elements of each of their forces to go and 'send him a message'. Leader would be th3 most expeeienced officer.

Could conceive of xhapters embroiled in a limg campaign combining forces into strike forces due to necessitty (casualties), familiarity, expediancy or politics ('we would be honoued to fight along the renowned bladenounverbs') to develop brotherly bonds and forge future alliances or simply suspicion 'see what they know about x' or 'learn how they fight!" etc.

Only limits are your imagination really.

For additional inspiration, here are some kickass illustrations of Space Marines from different chapters fighting side by side:
