Am i the only one who thinks contrast paints suck for their purpose? i end up just using them like inks/washes because i never get the results they advertise.
I have found them to be useful, and good results with them are possible. I have found that starting with a grey base coat, then a white dry brush helps make the details stand out more. Two coats are still needed for a lot of the lighter colours, and a lot of brush control is needed as you need to flood the brush but not the model. I'll edit the post with a picture of something I'd done with them once I'd gotten the hang of them.
Edit to include pictures. These were all almost exclusively contrast;

I’m getting good effects from the ones I’m using, especially the guiliman flesh.
i use guilliman flesh to shade my regular skin tones lol.
i'm doing some experimenting on color scheme and kroxigor, pylar, and aethermeaic, and even the technical paint nihilak just flood into the recesses, and don't stick to the the flat/main surfaces at all.
You should check out Juan Hidalgo's painting videos. He uses contrasts a lot and gets great results with them.
I'm yet to master contrast and I mainly use them for glazing after I've done all my shading and highlighting. I do really like the new yellow, though it works more like an ink than how contrast paints were originally sold to us. I think part of the problem is the way each paint works varies quite a lot across the range, so you have to work out what's possible and what isn't with each paint.
All that said, I do really like the contrast paints I use, including guilliman flesh, and I like trying out new ones when I can. I always use them in conjunction with other techniques, though.

And this should be the first one to watch,,,

Contrast paints are a bit misleading because they are advertised as one-step solution but the result often looks bad if done as advertised. However, if you study them properly and use in combination with other techniques and you can achieve quick results that don't look amateurish.
I have been hobbying on and off for 20+ years and with Contrast paints I can pull of results that look better than my old methods but take only a fraction of time and effort. Win-win scenario, I would say.
