Greetings Dakkarians, and welcome to a project thread of my exploits with Warhammer 30k Horus Heresy 2.0. Many years ago I played the first version of the rules A LOT. First with a Sons of Horus force and then with a Mechanicum army (man they were a harsh faction back then!). However I've returned after a few years in the Warhammer 40k and World War 2 gaming wilderness to my beloved 31st millennium setting along with a big cohort of locals players. This time I've started with the mighty Death Guard and recently created an opposing loyalist force of Imperial Fists (majorly inspired by their exploits in the Siege of Terra series.

I'll update the thread shortly with some proper Death Guard photos but I've never sat down to do them properly as they were speedily painted up for a group gaming day down at Warhammer World last year and I've been putting off doing some finishing touches to them. But here's a flavour of what I've completed so far.

First up the AoD Contemptor dreadnought. He also has the melta weapon that can be swapped with the autocannons. I've improved the eyes since this shot (see below).

Next up is a ten man unit of Grave Wardens. Money is always a factor with Forge World so I decided to use the AoD plastic terminators and convert them to hopefully be a good enough proxy for the resin versions. I replaced their combi-bolters with the new plastic heavy weapons team heavy bolter. I cut off the muzzle and replaced with the barrel from the old Imperial Guard grenade launchers. Looks pretty close to the assault launchers I think that GWardens get. I cut off the round vents from the rear of the models, and transplanted them to their nipples for some gas emissions (some have 1 some have a pair). On their backs I then added the Imperial Guard flamer fuel tanks and painted them suitably rusted and corroded to indicate the death cloud projectors they have on their unit cards - each tank has that little bendy pipe with a gas tap on the end - some poor servitors have to turn them on pre-battle I guess. Finally I added a variety of cloth and chainmail loin cloths to replace the leather straps. I think they work well enough?

To make them as useful as possible on the field of battle, I've made a Cataphractii herald to accompany them and make them a scoring unit! He's just the old plastic praetor with the original arms removed (easier said than done due to the cloak) and replaced with a powerfist and a banner from Kromlech (FW decal).

Finally here is the big boss himself, Mortarion. I've barely used him in games so far but love the model. Went for a slightly different scheme and really I need to improve the base and few other bits of metals with the Dirty Down Rust I've just got. But he'll do for now.

I've a bunch more infantry and vehicles too but no photos yet. In the mean time I've been working on some reinforcements and the aforementioned glow-up of some units. First off is this Leviathan siege dreadnought. I went for the classic claw and drill combo, with some poor Blood Angel victim hanging limp from the claw. Blood and gore to be added and a base, but he's just about finished. Hopefully the improved eye lenses on the Contemptor can be seen here too (and the other gun) - the tufts will be coming off for some pigments on the base shortly.

I've got a heavy support squad with lascannons, Callas Typhon and another Rapier on the way too. Plus some flamer/melta predators. Quite a stressful batch paint - decided to complete the Leviathan as doing this lot in a one-r was doing my head in.

They look great. I especially like the contemptor in the first picture. You've done a great job of maintaining a clean and crisp paintjob, despite all the battle damage. The greens look really good as well.

Yeah that's a lot to batch-paint at once, especially doing the 2 tanks with it! They look great though.

Cracking start to the plog! The terminator conversions look great, especially the banner bearer. Neat work chopping him up! The blood angel hanging form the power fist was a cool addition too
