Hello everyone,

I joined this website about 4 years ago with the intent of really settling down and painting. Unfortunately, that didn't quite happen, but I'm determined to really get there this time.

I've been working on some Primaris Space Marines and painting them as Dark Angels. I was originally gifted a Dark Vengeance set in 2016, and would like to finish it one day. I have some small packs of Primaris Marines I'm a little happier to test with, though, so I've been working on those.

I don't want to over-spam with images, so I'll probably mostly link to the galleries and post highlights in here.

This is the first one I worked on - I use Caliban Green air paint to brush on the base coat (this was the recommendation of the games workshop owner in Birmingham, AL. Said it was thin so it went on well. I'm not entirely sure how much I approve of that method rather than normal base paint.) I then did some edge highlighting with a mix of caliban green and warpstone glow, then just warpstone glow. I might go in with a mix of warpstone glow and moot green, I'd like the highlights to be a bit brighter. That said, my brush skills leave much to be desired and my edge highlights are a little thick and chunky. I tried to use the side of the brush where I could, but I still had some trouble with that. (Note that I cleaned up that spot on the knee after, didn't notice it until I took the picture haha)

Images spoilered because they're enormous, lol.

Spoiler:

Next, I started on a new model and tried a Zenithal spray-can prime, and contrast paint for the green armor. Then I used mixes of the highlighting paints I mentioned above to attempt to edge highlight again. I'm happier with the result on this one, but the lines are still much thicker than I'd like.

Spoiler:

Going on a paint run tonight to get paint for the gun and accessory pieces. Looking forward to finishing my first miniature.

Painted my first gun, chest eagle, purity seal, and data pad yesterday. All that's left on this figure is the base and belt/bags, then some touch-up. Waiting on some necron bits to come in the mail for the base.

Worked on some smaller details last night. Painted the bag/belts and touched up some spots, and added silver rivets to the gun casing.

Belt/Bags - Really happy with how these turned out:

The edge highlights on the green look a little chunky, but otherwise good. The leather looks worn, which is good. Overall, a very nice clean paint job.

Thank you guys very much!

The edge highlights are definitely chunky, more like Rim highlights in some areas, haha. As I get more confident with the brush and better at making thin lines they'll start to look better, I think. Definitely gonna be a focus point for me.

Got my basing material in and finished my first space marine last night! Very pleased with the results.

Spoilered for bigass pictures again.

Nice job with the base. The dusting of paint around the feet really makes it feel like part of the scene.

Been a busy beaver this weekend.

Got two new marines finished, and started working on a razorback.

This was also my first time painting a face! I think I did pretty well.

Marines:

Razorback is only 1/3 assembled. Gonna prime it soon and paint the inside. I think I'll have the top removable since that seems pretty easy and have it able to be popped off and viewed.

These are all amazing for early miniatures, gotta say.

Thank you so much!! I really appreciate that. I guess it helps that I watched painting tutorials for years before starting.

I worked on painting my Razorback internals last night. Here is the progress:

Ignore the loading gate being put on backwards.

Realized I put the gate on backwards, lol...did some surgery and got it back in place proper. Just gotta redo the weathering on both sides. Gonna sand the leadbelcher off some and then repaint.

Nice work on the Rhino. You did a good job on the detailing of the consoles and an excellent job with the weathering/paint chipping.

Hurr! Ogryn Bone 'Ead!

AH... my first marines were dark-angels too... back inthe old second-ed days of the single pose minis from the marine-VS-ork set...

oh but they had looked but half as good as these for my first minis... LOL

if this is how you start out, you've a VERY promising hobby-time ahead!
it just gets better... as long as you stick at it and let it worm its way firmly within your skull till all you can think about is painting the next space-marines that is...

Thanks guys, I appreciate it!

I do feel like I'm gelling with the hobby pretty well. I hope I can keep up with it.

Was having a bit of a bad night last night and tried to paint, but being frustrated made me paint worse, so I decided to stop for the evening. Hopefully tonight will be better for painting.

The razorback is on a bit of a hold right now while I wait for some things in the mail. Got a drybrushing dampener pad to help paint the big panels on the razorback, and also ordered the forge world dark angel doors. Very excited for them to come in.

Got a group shot of the marines I've painted so far. It's a little dark, but it sure is 5 lil dudes.

Also, got a shot of the Dreadnought I'm working on. I blocked in some silver last night and hit it with a layer of Nuln oil. Might go back and hit certain areas with a little more, idk.

Nice work on the one dude's face. The dreadnaught is looking to be something good too.

Thank you! I'm excited to be finally working on the dreadnought.

There's a couple problems with it, though. Namely that I bought it, put it together, glued it, and primed it, like 5 years ago when I didn't know as much about the hobby. So it's got plenty of mouldlines and separated bits. I may try some greenstuff on anywhere that's particularly egregious, but I didn't want to do anything to really break it down and remake it. I want to paint it as-is because it's something I started. It's sort of like closing a book, I guess. Maybe I'm overly sentimental.

Either way, it's getting slapped with some Caliban Green tonight. Off the clock in 12 minutes and I'm gonna dive for my table.

Got some progress pics on the dreadnought!

And here is a pic of the flamethrower. Was happy with how this turned out. Might get some blue for it though, idk.

Thank you! Still mad that I assembled it poorly and then primed over it 5 years ago, but whatever. It's cool to have this thing that's been sitting on my shelf for half a decade finally painted.

Decided to 'warm up' after not painting for a few days with the two hardest things I've painted so far, lol...

As usual, the photo elucidated some of my little errors, so I'll likely go back and touch those up.

Very happy with the shield, though.

The shield looks pretty good, a bit cleaner than the shields on my own Bladeguard Vets. Nice job with the helmet too. Very clean and crisp lines.

Thanks man! I think I rushed a bit and had my paint a little too thick in some spots on the shield. Trying to remember that I've only been doing this for a month or so, and its not going to be perfect yet hahaha

Been a little busy so my painting has slowed down, but I got some UHU Glue + Blood for the Blood God on a chainsword today.
