I've built a couple, let me know if you need help. Needs one normal and one sticky piston. Not that much needed to build it really.
Like that? But that wouldn't need a sticky piston...

But what it does is the block forms and power passes through it. This inverts the power to the sticky piston and makes it retract. The normal piston is then powered and pushes out the block.
Reason for it is the lava needs to fall onto the water to form stone. This is actually also to help against when it glitches and lava flows without becoming stone as it leaves an open space and a surface to easily place in a dirt block to reset the machine, fixing it.

nice
with mine i actually used a glass block being pushed by a sticky piston, when then piston extended the glass would not transmit electricity and the piston would retract, I believe this is slighly faster since it doesn't rely on an inverter ;P

Keep in mind that spawn points are random, so it will NOT necessarily spawn you in those specific locations.

guessing that someone got ghasted there.
The nether portals were not "synced" when the world was reset for 1.0. Unless someone went to the effort of matching the Buckland portal again after the reset, it will probably just be raw nether in that area.
The overworld Buckland portal will most likely be linking to the nearest portal in the nether (someone's own building like you say).
Just moved the Netherwart farm from next to my portal to the cobble box near the portal. It's a public farm so feel free to use it whenever. Also the existing farm wasn't even enough to fill a tenth of the area for it now, so if anyone has some Soul Sand they wouldn't mind donating let me know.
As a side note, my pool now freezes up.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Well found enough Soul Sand around to finish the first floor. There should be enough room in the existing structure to do another 3 or 4, though not sure if I'll build them yet or not as the roof makes a decent Ghast arena.
When full this floor will hold 394 plants with the ability to produce up to 1576 Netherwart. As it's about half planted the farm is open to the public under the condition that after you harvest you replant. Keeps it up and running for everyone. I'll also be adding in a sign shortly so it is more visible on the map.
The co-ords are X47, Z-236.
Also does anyone have any ideas for this? I was thinking maybe a cover, but I don't think it'll work. It started to freeze before it snowed anyway. The snow just basically nuked it. Edit: Being frozen basically killed the pool, there is huge gaps under the ice now.

Replace the floor with glowstone or add a roof.
Light level 12 will melt ice. If water is not exposed to the sky it will never freeze.
I also figured out how to update ladders hidden by pistons. Above the ladder place two signs, next to it will be a 2 block tall gap of water with the normal piston exit over the top of it. This would still be impossible to get out of so another piston is brought to the side to pull one block of the floor downwards to make a slight step while not letting the water out.
Somewhat complex but it seemed like the laziest way as I just had to move the ladder then throw in an extra piston and 5-6 redstone.
Hm. I need a big project to work on. Anyone need any help?

Yep.
Currently it's just digging a hole, but I'm not far off done with the hole.
