So after reading the new GSC rules released yesterday, I’m considering starting a GSC army. I know we don’t have points yet, but does it look like the best start is still 2X combat patrol boxes? Or would it be better to pick up a combat patrol + boarding patrol? Or 1X combat patrol + something else?

The GSC combat patrol gives you the best deal, I think. Plus it has the lady magus model.
Whatever lets you stock up on our nasty battleline units.
The boarding patrol is not as thrifty as the combat patrol, for the money spent; unless you need all of those models.

You might not want to get the HQ box, though it depends on what you are doing.
In that box you get a patriarch, a primus, and a magus.
The primus is great, but the patriarch and magus aren't screaming "auto-include"

After reading the index I think you want a truckload or neophytes acolytes. I am a bit unsure if you want any actual trucks or grinders. But they seem OK.

Primus and some of the support characters seems good. Ridge runner support for 'crossfire' seems good. Bikes also seem OK.

Unsure after that.
