There is a limit for
CP gain, core rules page 11:
GAINING COMMAND POINTS
Outside of the CP players gain at the start of the Command phase, each player can only gain a total of 1CP per battle round, regardless of the source.
However, there are certain unit abilities that also allow you to gain
CP. For an example, I shall use Lord Solar Leontus's:
The Lord Solar: At the start of your Command phase, If this model is on the battlefield, you gain 1CP.
My question is: does this count as part of the cap, or does it prevent you from gaining further
CP from other sources during play? My interpretation is that Leontus gives you the
CP "At the start of your Command phase..." which is not "outside of the
cp players gain at the start of the command phase". So a Guard player would be free to get a further 1CP from another source, such as a vox-caster.
As a supporting piece of evidence, there is the Knight rule Code Chivalric, which states:
If, at the start of any of your Command phases, your selected Oath’s Deed is completed, your army becomes Honoured for the rest of the battle and you gain 3CP (you can only gain CP in this way once per battle).
I see this as support, as if a
CP gain rule with the "start of command phase" wording is not excluded from the
CP gain cap, then this rule would actually only give you 1CP, as the 3CP would be above the cap.
I have come across the counter-argument that in the wording of the cap, "...
the CP players gain...", specifically means the single generic
CP generated by default.
So, what do people think?
