To a degree, yes. As part of the 10th Ed changes, most guns are now "typeless" with no special rules, similar to the votann "hunTR" type from 9e.
Many former assault type weapons ended up in that category mainly by default, as a way to avoid the extra shots of rapid fire or move and shoot penalty for heavy. Stuff like shotguns etc.
This way, they can limit the advance and fire advantage to a much smaller subset of guns.
