Hi all.
Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I'm picking up 40K for the first time since 2nd Edition...
I have a Primaris Captain with Plasma Pistol & Sword that was bundled with an issue of Imperium magazine. According to the 10th edition indexes, I can only take a plasma pistol with a power fist? I've searched everywhere for an answer as this seems to have also been the issue in 9th. Is this model listed anywhere else other than the Space Marine index or is it simply not possible to use this load out - which seems odd given that it's a fairly recent GW model.

Sometimes GW misses things that should be right in front of their face. I suggest sending this question to 40kfaq@gwplc.com and hope they decide to correct their mistake. As it currently stands, this is not a valid wargear option for your Primaris Captain.

Just saw the sword is a heavy dark saber like weapon and use it as that for now

This is indeed an anomaly. GW’s rules are a lot more rigid than they used to be, with “no model, no rules” being the unofficial word of the day. The rules will let you field what’s in the box. Mostly. They are wildly inconsistent. But probably a shock compared to the lawless wilds that was 2nd. The fact that there is a current model without rules is very odd. Sometimes niche or limited models get their rules in a legends line, so official, but not recommended for tournament play.

I suspect that 99% of the people you meet would be fine with you fielding him as a powersword/plasma pistol captain. It’s not like that’s some min/max exploitable combo. If you want to be 100% rules legal, you would need to have him counts-as one of the other options though. The suggestion to call his sword a chapter relic that hits like a powerfist is a good one.
